Huskies beat LSU to recruit

Only a couple of miles away from Husky Stadium, football coach Tyrone Willingham found the new lead man of his next recruiting class. Willingham, whose uncertain future had some worried about recruiting, received a commitment Thursday from Garfield High School defensive tackle Deandre Coleman, considered by many to be the top senior in the state. He chose the Huskies instead of offers from defending national champion LSU, Oregon and California.

ITS OK I THINK THE HUSKIES NEED HIM MORE THAN WE DO. GEAUX TIGERS.

Let's see how that works out for him............

The guy is from Washington according to Rivals.com LSU was one of may schools recruiting him. I guess FN thought it was news worthy to only point out that LSU was not his choice? Give me a break. Texas A&M, Cal, and many other schools were recruiting him as well. I think that we are pretty stacked on the Offense and Defensive lines for a few years. Don't worry, LSU will be OK. Anybody ever heard of 5 star recruit Chris Davenport?

They had better get a guy from Garfield. Are you kidding me? Without getting most of the few blue chip players Washington has they will be sunk. TW has got to keep these in-state guys and land some big-time out of staters to get this program back...

He's going to get much better coaching next year at Washington with Saban than terrible Ty! Can't blame a kid going to his "hometown" school.

I agree, it just made for big talk to point out that LSU lost out only when all of these other schools recriuting him also lost out. Rivals is barely fair to LSU it seems.

I doubt LSU tried that hard to get a guy that far away from Louisiana. LSU most likely offered and waited to see, but I doubt he really felt Washington was a better team or school than LSU especially when Willingham is on the hot seat.

Tiger fans, I think the article title is misleading too. At least on one recruiting web site LSU is not even listed amongst the 7 contenders for DT Deandre Coleman. Furthermore if Deandre were to call Coach Miles at LSU I'm sure Coach would ask Deandre to hold on his commitment until LSU was finished its recruiting of other players like Lufkin, TX, DT, Jamarcus McFarland, and Louisiana's DT Darrington Sentimore. Also to be considered in the acceptance or rejection of a commitment from Deandre Coleman is the actions or inaction of DE's Sam Montgomery (SC) and Jelani Jenkins (MD). These recruiting classes are gradually pieced together to make the best team, so I doubt Deandre would have ended up in Baton Rouge even if Coach Willingham had not obtained his commitment.

Remember also in this years recruting class (2008) Tiger DT's, Cordian Hagans, 6'5",290 and Lavar Edwards,6'4",275 are now Freshman. We could actually do without another DT in 2009 if a 5star player of another position became availble, eg, Jelani Jenkins.
We're in great shape at LSU, truly wonderful, unprecedented great shape. We're at the pinnacle or our prowess. Coach Miles is building a fantasy land of football tradition.
I guess I'm excited to see us get back to playing the 08 season.
