Jasikevicius blasts Pacers, Carlisle

Sarunas Jasikevicius doesn't mince words: He blames most of his problems in Indiana on former Pacers and current Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle. "Obviously, the (up-tempo) style of play Rick promised me was never there, the opportunities to play were never there, and the players who were supposed to be gone by the time I came were still around," he said. "Rick did a great false recruiting job on me, like college recruiting where they say, 'If you come here, we promise you the world.' " He acknowledged that some players even froze him out, refused to give him the ball. "There were a lot of guys (in the Pacers locker room) who were in the last year of their contract, and they didn't like the European boy coming over and getting the money," Jasikevicius said. "Obviously, Fred (Jones), a lot of guys, they weren't happy I was there." One thing he wanted known, though, was that Stephen Jackson was not among those conspiring against him. "He might have been my best teammate," Jasikevicius said.

Why would they be conspiring against Sarunas Jasikeviciusmicotefvh ?

August 15, 2008  09:33 AM ET

But I thought that Indiana got a couple other white boys in the trade with Golden State - Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy. So how can it be a conspiracy against only Sarunas?
Besides, if Sarunas had a problem with the other players not passing the ball, couldn't he take the issue to Bird? Bird is a no-nonsense guy who should be able to set the other guys straight.

its good to see that stephen jackson finally hired a P.R. guy.

i think bird used to be a no know sense guy back in the day. but it seems to me like he just gave up and decided to not deal with all the problems the pacers were having. by some of the players entitlement, fights, and arrest. i think he said screw it.

Throw the race card, Sarunas! Oh wait ... Lithuanian is not actually a race, is it ... ?

August 15, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Yall forget Stephen had to play his way into the league.....he wasnt a 1st round pick that got big money just for being a 1st round pick (BROWN)......he was a enough to have one good year and get a monster contract (EVANS)....I know dude may have some thug in him.....but he balls

August 15, 2008  10:33 AM ET

When did Fred Jones ever have the ball? lol oh god what a disaster in Indiana..

August 15, 2008  11:33 AM ET

The guy is just sour. He has not proven anything in the NBA. If he is complaining about Indiana then he should be complaining more about Golden State where he hardly gets any playing time and still hasn't proven anything. Even the head coach's son Donnie Nelson coached him before in the past and would know more about him. Don Nelson would have played him a lot more if he has proven his worth. He is just overrated base on his leadership for Lithuania. Good player and leader for Lithuania but it does not translate in the NBA.

Sarunas was involved in the Golden State trade. He never played with Troy and Jr. They were components of the same trade.

BTW even Tim Duncan has called Stephen Jackson the ultimate teammate. Its sad the only reason people remember him is for the Malice at the Palace. Doesn't he have a ring?

August 15, 2008  12:11 PM ET

yes he has a ring... and sarunas left the nba to live in greece and play for pana. good player, has great handling and very strong leader. Stop beating on the foreigners though.. dirk, nash, parker and ming c'mon anybody would like these guys on ur team

August 15, 2008  12:53 PM ET

out of context. im sure he didnt call a press conference to talk about how much he hated the pacers. somebody probably asked him a bunch of questions including about his time in indiana, and he responded bluntly. then writers make the controversial parts of the interview the news story. sure, he could've been more diplomatic, but you dont blame people for telling the truth.

on the other hand, this speaks volumes about stephen jackson. tim duncan and saurnas jasikewhatthefunk are two people completely different from stephen jackson in completely different ways, but both still say he was their best teammate. lots of credibility for someone who gets so much flak from the media.

blahblablahblahstephenjacksonblah blah......wait stephen jackson being civil hellz yeah!!!!!!!! go golden state!

August 15, 2008  12:56 PM ET

like he is a major star anyways

I don't blame him for not enjoying his time with Indiana, they were a team full of problems. He's a solid player, he may feel a little sour because he wasn't really given the opportunity to be allowed to play the way he can. When coaches let players play the way they can (not confined in the system), they shine (Nash for example). But sometimes that will never really happen with some guys. About his comments about Jackson,Sarunas wasn't just being nice. Ya Jackson obviosly had his problems off court, but he plays a pretty balanced game, never too greedy and plays to win.

Who is this guy? What team does he play for again? Why is he news?

All that matters is he's still warmed the bench for Golden State after the Pacers traded him.
