The Bruce Arena era in Los Angeles is about to begin. The Los Angeles Galaxy has hired Bruce Arena as the team's new head coach, multiple sources told SBI on Friday. Arena will be joined on the Galaxy staff by former Chicago Fire head coach Dave Sarachan, who served as Arena's assistant with the national team during the 2002 World Cup.

bruce is a great coach. i would rather he go back and coach uva again

i think its a great signing. people don't give him enough credit with all the work, world cups, qualifiers during his time with the USMNT. He not only was great but he was great with DC United. Give him some time, money, and good sound players and you watch.. He will make them winners

OMG and Fox Sports en Espanol is reporting that Hugo Sanchez will be LA's next coach and an official annoucement is within hours. Please, Please PLEASE let this be wrong, I will take Bruce Arena anyday over HuGol, he doesn't need to lie and snake his way into another team. Arena has already proven himself and knows the MLS.

Arena was terrible in the world cup. He does nothing with NYRB. Then we hear that he is going to coach in England - no chance. So he waits around for another MLS team. The Galaxy may want a coach with MLS knowledge, but I don't think they gave Gullitt a chance - rather keep him than Arena anyday. Now they just pick up another recycled MLS coach. My prediction: Arena is fired within two seasons for lack of results and we are back to square one. Not happy with this decision at all. I hope he proves me wrong.

Why Arena? If he becomes coach, he better make the team good. Last chance before he becomes chicken scratch!!!!!!

August 16, 2008  04:49 PM ET

By the way, isnt Hugo Sanchez rumored also for the job????

August 16, 2008  04:50 PM ET

Arena is overrated. He has not won anything as far as world class soccer is concerned. His greatest success in WC 2002. Not a bad acheivement, but he was a total flop in WC 2006 and with RBNY.Still, he is better choice than Sanchez no doubt.

Oh, no! Why?

Lord have mercy! That's all I can say!

August 17, 2008  02:22 PM ET

all I can say is... Major League Soccer is a bunch of shh.... Why do we have the league making decisions on what players go where and if this coach will be hired?!?!... everyone wonders why our league will never be like Europe.. there is your proof right there... we have one general hierarchy running the whole show. Of course LA is gonna win a championship soon.. The league will make sure Beckham wins at least one.

August 17, 2008  04:50 PM ET

Agree with some of what you said. The beckham thing? It's not like Arena is Fabio Capelloor something. The only way LA wins is if they get better players. Arena won't make them better. U.S. coaches are not on the same level as Europe's.

I've been out of the loop. When did Guillit get canned. Arena is a great coach. Yes, no Capello, but he has done great things with US soccer. All the best to him and the Galaxy.

10,

MLS will have to exist as a "socialist" style league until it becomes profitable. Teams would be going bankrupt left and right if it was a kill or be killed enviornment. In this format the virgining league has parody as well as rewarding quality coaching and managment.

Did any of you hear the Galaxy owner, saying you dont interview a man like Bruce? You gotta be kidding me, I would interview his sorry butt four or five times.... He is such an arrogant sob, the only time I want to watch him is if he is losing... he is a failure.. Did enough to be on the top of conaccaf and that was it, and honestly, thats not good enough. Galaxy youre pulling at straws, this season is probably a lost cause anyway, take your time....
