The Green Bay Packers' proposed $20 million marketing deal for Brett Favre included a merchandise line, autographs, personal appearances and even a blog, according to a report in The Sporting News' online newsletter Friday. And while Favre turned down the deal in favor of returning to play and was traded to the New York Jets last week, the Packers are expected to offer him a similar agreement once he retires for good.

They should welcome him back!! He is the cornerstone of the modern NFL. Any of the packers players from the 60's (including the coach) wouldn't last a minute playing in the modern NFL.

It's time to admit the without Favre the packers as an organization would be nonexistent.

Traditionalist packer fans are imbiciles stuck in there 1960's lifestyle remembering a time when they could actually get-it-up.

This is old news. Been reported (same story) on 3 different sports channels. Time to move on.

"When he retires for good"? You mean next month?

Here's what will happen: They will offer him something in the 5-10 million dollar range, and the DRAMA QUEEN will go running to find the nearest reporter to complain that Green Bay is not being fair.

Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back to that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they???re turned around...

OOH, OOH....Mr. Koo-ter!!

August 16, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Or Kotter. Whatever works.

I like that their deal also included a blog, something anyone can get for free anytime they want. How old do they think Brett is? "Hey Brett, you know those blogs you keep hearing about? Well, we weren't going to do this, because it's such a big deal.....but we can pull some strings and get one just for you? Would you like that?"

August 16, 2008  09:49 AM ET

I thought he already retired for good....For the 79473937 time...

"I thought he already retired for good....For the 79473937 time..."

I realize that he's open to criticism for changing his mind in a ridiculously inconvenient manner, but 1 != 79473937.

I'd actually be sort of surprised to see Favre take a marketing deal with the current administration of the Packers. Maybe after they're fired in a few years.

He looks like he is tired of training camp already...He looks unhappy and he done made some snide remarks.....

Technically Brett has only retired once and there are still some Favre fans who question whether or not it was official this time since he's back but, Favre only flirted with retirement 14 times in his NFL career not following through with any of them.

Angrychinaman, I think your meds are wearing off. You should go find a knitting story to comment on. Favre was an above average QB who happened to play for the same team for a long time. His greatest accomplishment is longevity, being able to play 110-120 games straight without missing any due to injury is testimony to his toughness. His one SB win was thanks to a kick returner named Desmond Howard.
Not many of the Old Time players on any team would survive in the modern era at their old positions. The lineman of that time where about the size of a modern day LB. Some of the QB's, recievers and runnuning backs could do it for sure.
The packers could install me at QB and they would sell out every game this year. Don't laugh, I've got a pretty good arm for an old guy!
