Two Yankee scouts, who had been put on leave by the organization pending an investigation by Major League Baseball into the signing of prospects, were dismissed this week, according to a person in baseball who had been briefed on the investigation. The Yankees terminated the contracts of Carlos Rios, the director of Latin American scouting, and Ramon Valdivia, the Dominican Republic scouting director, the person said. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he did not want to jeopardize his access to sensitive information. Major League Baseball and the F.B.I. are looking into whether club employees paid players small portions of bonuses they reported to baseball and kept the difference for themselves.

This is a good thing. Skimming money? This is disgraceful. Looks like other scouts in other organizations are also doing it. (red sox white sox) Money is the root of all evil.

Clearly, this is most under-reported story of the baseball season. And as a Yankee hater I'd love to say it's all about the Yankees. But it's not. In time more organizations than not will be involved in this. Talk about Ugly Americans...
