Multiple baseball sources confirmed for the Post-Dispatch that the Cardinals did not put in a waivers claim on Seattle lefthander Jarrod Washburn. "His name has not come up," a source in the Cardinals' organization said. A report in the Seattle Times said that Washburn "had been told" that the Cardinals "might have" put in a claim on him.

Forget it, I lived in the Seattle area, and watched the Mariners for years. One thing you didn't want to pick up off the waivers, and that was Mariner pitchers.

This doesnt make any sense... they would have nowhere to put em, they have nowhere to put half their players now.

Lohse: 13-4 3.92 ERA
Wellemeyer: 10-4 3.79 ERA
Carpenter: 1.88 ERA
Looper: 11-9 4.07 ERA
Piniero: 5-5 4.82 ERA

Then theirs Wainwright coming back soon...

Which leads me to another point, why does no one acknowledge the fact the Cards have one of the best rotations in baseball. 4 starters sub 4 ERA when Wainwright returns and one good start for Looper makes it a full house.

he'll miss a start... maybe two, but no more

Why would we pick up a 14 million per year contract for a below average pitcher?

The prior GM has screwed the Mariners for years to come. They are overloaded with highly over paid average to below average players. They can't offload them without eating salary.

This GM screwed them by not letting the Yankees take this guy off their hands. Instead of freeing up the 14 million for next year, the Mariners can eat the contract themselves.

I can't believe that the Cards had any serious interest in this guy, especially with his price tag. The Cards would be MUCH more likely to plug Jaime Garcia or Mitchell Boggs into their rotation than add Washburn

As the pitching woes continue, i'd say we needn't worry about the starters. Eventually Wainright will come back and Carp hopefully will make it back off the DL. Those are 2 key additions to the starting rotation. Spending money on a rental would be like burning cash at this point.

Anyone is a better option than Ron Villone.

I hear that....superheat. But this guy isn't the answer.....Jaime Garcia probably is.....
