New Orleans Hornets free agent guard Jannero Pargo, a valued sixth man, has reached an agreement in principle with Moscow Dynamo on a one-year contract worth about $4 million, sources close to the negotiations told Yahoo! Sports. Some details still needed to be worked out Friday before the contract could be finalized, but sources said there were no hurdles left that should jeopardize the deal. Pargo, 28, had developed into a dangerous bench scorer for the Hornets and attracted the interest of several teams, including the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks. New Orleans wanted to keep him -- and Pargo's preference was to stay -- but the Hornets had invested too much available money in free agent James Posey to make a strong enough bid.

See you in a year, Pargo ... when you sign an even smaller contract.

Well, good for him

Kind of makes one wonder what some of the NBA GMs are thinking. If Kwame Brown is worth $4 million, certainly Pargo is worth at least that much. New Orleans will miss him. How often did we hear teams begging for point guard help last season? To allow Pargo to go to Europe makes absolutely no sense.

He didn't go to Georgia Tech did he?

August 16, 2008  09:58 AM ET

I hope he makes it through those rough winters over there..And yes Cheesy, he will be signing a smaller contract next year..That's sad..

dasvidanya....hope he's been watching cnn, because russia may not be the safest place to be pretty soon. i think someone may have taken the cold war out of the fridge, stuck it in the oven and turned the heat on 450...'nuke' it in the microwave...

August 16, 2008  12:03 PM ET

didnt teams offer him 4 million to have him get away from as little as that

August 16, 2008  12:31 PM ET

Hmm

Not sure playing Baskelball in Russia is a good idea. It appears he may be religated to playing on a Russian USO tour playing agaist russian troop teams in Georgia and abroad.

Wow, this is real dangerous.

I'm with Hannibal. Good for him. I wanted to see my Suns pick him up as Nash's new backup. He would be great for the team. Oh well.

August 16, 2008  01:48 PM ET

Wonderful.
This just makes the Hornets have even less depth than they already did.

August 16, 2008  02:13 PM ET

Hornets made a bad move in not keeping Pargo. They way over paid for James Posey.

Good luck. Better hope the Russian mob doesn't ask for a piece of the action.

wow you really must not be the brightest bulb in the box....its an 8 mil contract per year. he's going to make 4 mill net! last time i checked thats even more than the contract deng just signed on a pro year basis

do you not realize that there are more than just a couple basketball teams in russia?!?!? if the mob was so bad, then you wouldn't have people lining up and tryin to get soccer contracts in russia! Anybody that thinks that an athlete is going to have mob issues, race issues, etc. is just dumb...

I don't understand why no one sees it, the day will come when they will all go overseas where the money is - they play for money not anything else. Our corporations are moving overseas why wouldn't the players follow. For the rich living in other parts of the world is better than America.

Big Mistake Pargo!!!! You have to stay in the NBA and develop your niche!!! You're a quiick shooter these GM's dont recognize it right now but you have to just keep doing what youre doing. It took Jposey 6years to finally carve out his nicheand get paid!!!!! This is a BAD move for Pargo!!!!!

Wow, Rrasheed, I guess you're not even in the box! If you could read, you'd see that he's only signing a one year contract. Odds are, he'll be back begging for an NBA roster spot next year after he flames out across the pond. He will then sign a contract LESS than what he is being offered now. Also, if he's making $4M this year, he's going to one of the top teams/leagues in Russia. The odds are VERY good that the Russian mob has a hand in it. Now, did you get all that?
