Why McCabe won't be a Bruin

Word around the NHL last week was that Bryan McCabe, no longer wanted behind the Maple Leafs blue line, tendered Toronto management a list of five clubs, including Boston, to which he would accept a trade. Chances of McCabe wearing Black and Gold: zero. Had he warmed up to the idea of leaving weeks ago, the Bruins might have offered Glen Murray and Peter Schaefer to the Leafs, and GM Cliff Fletcher could have been enticed - dishing away McCabe's $14.45 million in salary for $8.75 million in Murray and Schaefer. Way too late for that now. Look for the Leafs and Panthers to finalize a deal once McCabe has pocketed the $2 million bonus the Leafs owe him.

The other reason he probably won't be a Bruin - he isn't worth anywhere near 5-6 million/season. The Bruins are an up and coming club with no room for a number 2 type defenseman raking in that kind of dough.

If the cap keeps soaring every year at the current pace, 5-6million will soon become a standard for a number 2 defenseman, Especially in the light of the competion from KHL. Perhaps one day you'll regret Leafs dealing McCabe, joec ;)
I hope their current rebuilidng will finally turn out to be successfull and soon all kids in the Toronto area will be wearing Jeff Finger jerseys...

Awwwwww. McCabe isnt going to the Bruins? I will not get over this.....EVER!!
LOL. He wouldnt have fit in anyway. Plus we didnt have the cap space for him. I wonder if Kaberle is on the market? I'd rather much have him. The guy is good.

Bostongm, as far as I know he was never involved in any trade rumors. The guy is in his prime and will earn modest 4.25million per season for 3 more years. Even in Toronto they realize he's a great asset and will never let him go for a bag of pucks.

Actually Kaberle was going to the Flyers at the trade deadline for Carter but Kaberle balked. He still has a NTC. So i'm guessing he's not going to waive it. It would be nice though. Wishing is allowed isnt it?

Kaberle is a true talent. McCabe is not earning his keep.

The Islanders should get him back. God knows the Islanders are still reeling from the mismanagement of Milbury.

Hhahahaha...Hank...are you talking about that movie about pot growers? I saw that one but i cant place the name. It was not bad. At the end their pot got confiscated and burnt, right? And everybody got high? Hhahhaha. IF only these pot growers had good smart people with them, they'd never get caught.

Nope, Bandits. Bruce Willis and Billy Bob (and Cate Blanchett) are the Sleepover Bandits. Willis keeps telling Billy Bob about some guy who dies of a tumor and how the guy kept smelling burning leaves... So Billy Bob kept asking people if they too smelled burning leaves.

August 18, 2008  05:56 PM ET

Whoa......close similarities there Hank. Well the burning part anyways.

Billy Bob didn't have a tumor, he was merely susceptible to suggestion.

Wasn't trying to make inferences.
