Marlins likely to deal players

Unless Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria doubles the $22 million payroll (which nobody expects), several players likely will be dealt this winter for cheaper talent. ''Payroll will always match revenue,'' team president David Samson stressed. One National League general manager said Florida's predicament is tricky because ''it's hard to find alternatives if you move some of their best arbitration-eligibles, like Dan Uggla. Mike Jacobs is probably the most expendable.''

And the saga continues for MLB - rich teams buy players and the middling and bottom teams in revenue are minor league feeders.

Poor Bottom Feeders-- Have you noticed that the marlins have won 2 world series and are a position to be in the playoffs today! I am a Yankee fan so I understand money is not the answer to a winning team. If you dont believe see the Rays this year also. TALENT AND GOOD BASEBALL PEOPLE win games.

Too bad baseball doesn't embraces the philosophy that the league is only as strang as it's weakest link. Whether the Marlins can only truly afford a $22 mil payroll or the owner is pocketing vast riches, something needs to be done. Yes, they are competitive this year. But this could get really ugly in the years to come if it continues.

I'd take Jacobs over Delgado any day.

what do they do with all the $$$$$ they get from the sox, yankees and the like that are 100's of millions over the cap. every dollar any team goes over the cap, they put a dollar into a kitty. that kitty is divided up by the teams below the cap.

Slinky, you know that most people choose an avatar based on a personal likeness, interest, or fantasy. For example, I look a lot like Stone Cold. So what do you think that Grossedout's avatar says about him?

August 17, 2008  11:11 AM ET

SlinkyRedfoot, It's my fault, I gave him attention. My bad.

They're reoccuring.
