Astros veterans draw interest

Everyone is longing for middle-relief help. The one veteran who had a lot of claims on him was Doug Brocail of the Astros, but owner Drayton McLane is still in a denial stage and doesn't seem to want to part with anyone. There also has been interest in catcher Brad Ausmus, but - surprisingly - not by the Red Sox or Padres, teams he would love to go to.

Why would the Sox want Ausmus? They already have two catchers who can't hit.

For the same reason the TB Bucs keep signing QBs who can't throw.

Redsoxs seems to be wanting everyone. Thats not a good sign.

That avatar is not a good sign, either.

Nationals trade pitcher Ayala to Mets
Relief pitcher requested trade

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals traded right-handed relief pitcher Luis Ayala to the Mets on Sunday morning for a player to be named later, but that player is expected to be infielder Anderson Hernandez.
Ayala requested the trade weeks ago because he wanted a change of scenery, due to personal problems.

Ayala has struggled this season, compiling a 1-8 record with a 5.77 ERA in 62 appearances.

Hernandez will join the Nationals on Tuesday against the Phillies. He will be a backup infielder for the remainder of the season.

The Astros will go hard after Ben Sheets this winter. If they are successful, they are poised for a good run in '09.

Hmm...I never knew Brad wanted to be a Red Sox...I thought he's said that he'd only play for the Astros or Pads or a team on the WEST coast... Oh. Wait. This was reported by the BOSTON Globe. That explains it. Apparently, in Boston they think EVERYONE wants to play for the Red Sox...
