Injury keeps Brady off Pats flight

Another preseason game, another night off for Tom Brady. The Patriots quarterback did not make the trip to Tampa Bay last night with the team, according to a league source, and will miss tonight's game against the Buccaneers with an undisclosed injury. With Brady out, Matt Cassel, Matt Gutierrez and Kevin O'Connell should share the snaps. Cassel is coming off a 1-for-4 performance that was partly a product of sloppy offensive line play, a wet field and a miscommunication with Chad Jackson that led to an interception against the Ravens in the exhibition opener.

ankle didnt seem to keep him from traipsing around Europe with Gisele for 3 months...

and we all know, preseason means nothing to Belichick as far as veterans go.. preseason is rookie camp.

MATTUSA | 08/17/08

yes, I believe it does.. every year on Sept 21st or 20th right ?

August 17, 2008  11:52 AM ET

How many times have I been told by the great FanNation population that preseason games are a waste of time and totally unnecessary? How many threads have there been about cutting the preseason down to two games and increasing the regular season to 17 or 18 games? Am I now being told preseason matters?

He'll be in New York running errands for Giselle.

Don't we all wish we had an injury such as this keeping us from the most monotonous portions of our jobs ... and this lucky putz has Gisele to nurse him back to health.

He just wants to sit home and admire his new Bronze Medal from the Super Bowl loss.

I believe second place is Silver.. I believe Dallas and the Chargers share the Bronze

what place did the Skins get ? oh yeah, thats right.. they were eliminated from contention back in week 2

KP, check your fanmail.

August 17, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Damn Ray, you usually save your hits for Dallas fans. This is uncharacteristic.

Injury keeps him off the flight? What, was his hospital bed too big to fit in the door? As a professional and, more importantly, a mentor, he should have still been on the sidelines helping the backups. That's what mentors do.

August 17, 2008  12:49 PM ET

It was an 'undisclosed injury' Hooah, if he went with them he'd have to disclose it, wouldn't he? You know how secretive the Pats and their fans are. < Please remember to use sarcasm when/if you read this post, my sarcasm key is broken. >

That shoulders really becoming a problem huh ? well...maybe his 18-1 ring will help him through this season. It's too bad no team in their division has a vicious pass rush like the giants to batter his now frail body into retirement .
It was fun watching the giants batter him into fustration and failure, at times I thought he was going to cry.

August 17, 2008  01:37 PM ET

Is this a front like his last 'injury'. Brady is a cry baby ****, somethings I guess just dont change.

August 17, 2008  02:33 PM ET

If you want to see the true genius behind the Pats' success watch the best QB drafted this past April.Kevin O'Connell will be a stud pro bowler for some team in the very near future.Unlike most teams, the Pats' actually evaluate players based on performance and potential and not by listening to ESPN "experts" and draft "gurus".(the same ones who get bums like V. Young drafted ahead of Cutler)

meh...Cutler isn't doing so hot himself either.

Can't really trust the preseason as to how a team will play during the regular season (I can't believe I just defended the Patriots ...)

August 17, 2008  04:03 PM ET

I think the undisclosed injury is boredom.

"and the fall begins"

Sure, flametard. They say that every season.

On another note, the only problem I see with an 18 game season is that the first few games won't mean much. Look at the GIANTS last year. Through the first 2 games of the season, this team had already lost more games than the PATS would through the SB. That to me says the season is TOO long already.

I would go to a 14 game season with 2 preseason contests.

You just watch. He has his diabetes in check, and he is back to being his normal size. He's gonna have a hell of a year this year. I know that preseason isn't always a good gauge for the reg. season, but he went 16-20, 178 yds., 1 TD against the Cowboys first-teamers last night. You'll be taking that statement back by the end of the season.
