Beavers freshman turning heads

Jacquizz Rodgers is listed at 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, and that must be on his tiptoes. His hero is Barry Sanders, the shifty, now-you-see-him, now-you-don't former running back for the Detroit Lions. His older brother James, as a true freshman, was the sparkplug of the Oregon State offense at 5-7, 182 pounds, running left, then right, on the fly sweep. Oregon State was the only Division I program to offer James Rodgers a scholarship offer coming out of Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas, but Jacquizz (everybody calls him Quizz) Rodgers had a handful. Boston College wanted him in the Big East. Baylor and Southern Methodist wanted to keep him in-state. Illinois wanted to add him to their spread offense. Quizz Rodgers chose the Beavers, chose to play with his brother, and he instantly became one of the most decorated recruits in OSU history. There are skeptics who wonder if Quizz Rodgers can work his magic in the Pacific-10 Conference at his size, but after watching him in preseason camp, watching him run circles around a defense considered one of the quickest in the country, the believers are lining up and OSU marketing officials are rubbing their hands.

"...and he instantly became one of the most decorated recruits in OSU history."

So basically he isn't **** yet and probably won't turn out to be anything either.

What an article...a kid named Jacquizz, freshmen Beavers, and maketing officals are "rubbing their hands" Who writes this stuff!?

August 18, 2008  10:47 AM ET

beavers turning heads just made my day

August 18, 2008  10:54 AM ET

It seems like this kid will be under a ton of pressure, and he is the main reason some top 25 polls include Oregon State. That's a lot.
Oh yeah, 50yearfan, clearly the best point made here is from you above.

August 18, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Chosing to play with your brother.....now that's different!

August 18, 2008  12:14 PM ET

This kid is the real deal , He set a Texas state record for TD's in a career and is in the top 10 in rushing yards. He led their team to a 4A state title.USU got themselves a heck of a player.

August 18, 2008  12:23 PM ET

Still my all time favorite mascot. What I could do with painting a mascot on their helmets....It could be just like Ohio State with all those silly things on their helmets for every game they play . What a motivational tool !

August 18, 2008  12:36 PM ET

It's weird...I was looking at Beaver Hunt the other day and they had nothing about this story. that's just sloppy (non)reporting.

August 18, 2008  12:39 PM ET

AFscott and everyone who is making fun of rodgers brother won't be laughing by mid season after they dismantle USC. ALL of you WILL it eat your words!!! Trust me on this.. August 18, 2008  12:44 PM ET

August 18, 2008  12:54 PM ET

August 18, 2008  01:02 PM ET

August 18, 2008  01:08 PM ET

"So basically he isn't **** yet and probably won't turn out to be anything either."

Yeah - he'll probably be another bust like Steven Jackson, Derek Anderson, Sabby Piscatelli, Chad Johnson, TJ Housh.

I HOPE he fails in a similar fashion.

Go Beavs!
