Yates Racing, with an assist from partner Roush Fenway, is making a push to sign Paul Menard from Dale Earnhardt Inc. "We believe we're the leading contender outside of the incumbent," Smith said. #38-David Gilliland and #28-Travis Kvapil currently drive for Yates Racing. DEI officials have been negotiating to re-sign Menard and feel confident he will return to the organization.

RUN LIKE HECK!!!!!!!

August 18, 2008  07:58 AM ET

I think Yates' interest is not as much about Paul as it is about his daddy's money.

That's right Wahoo... Menard brings his own sponsor with him wherever he goes

August 18, 2008  08:44 AM ET

Morning nascarcrazy !

August 18, 2008  08:55 AM ET

I think you all hit the nail on the head..... seriously, what has Menard done to make him wanted as a driver for other organizations (Besides daddys money).

I will admit though that when Menard came on the circuit I thought he would do well.... of course, I also thought Dale Jr would do better than Busch this year....

Open mouth...insert foot...

Menard is crap on wheels...why would anyone fight to get him? I know he comes packin a bankroll but does that really offset poor performance on raceday??

August 18, 2008  09:04 AM ET

At least DEI still has Truex.
Hahahahaha

EXACTLY what I thought as soon as I read the headline.....if you sign him, daddy's sponsor money will be sure to follow.

August 18, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Considering the economy Right now, a good sponsor is worth more than a good driver.

August 18, 2008  11:28 AM ET

I would like to see several drivers put this JERK into the wall. Not Cup material.

August 18, 2008  11:45 AM ET

I agree with Iamright....the sponsor has gotten to be more important than the driver.

Floatman.....I love your happy face avatar...nice change.

August 18, 2008  11:51 AM ET

I am soooo sorry, Wahoo! I can't type, I have dyslexia, wasn't paying attention..etc. It won't happen again!

August 18, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Teach Michael Phelps to drive....seems everyone is always chasing him.

August 18, 2008  12:23 PM ET

I don't care, Nazzy. I was just having a little fun with you. As you know, I get called all kinds of things in RNF so I just viewed it in that light. LOL

How is Yates going after a driver who brings a sponsor along any different than what goes on in any other series. Do you really think Milka Duno would have a ride in the Indy Cars if she didn't bring money with her?

Get used to this, it is business folks. Menard has what Yates really doesn't have. Money. Yates is running on a shoestring budget and bringing a sponsor on board will really help the team.

What is the difference between Menard and Duno? At least Menard knows how to stay out of the way.
