Snag in Lakers-Pacers trade

While Jermaine O'Neal would improve the Laker defense significantly, his low field goal percentage is a worry. To give up both Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom is simply too much for the Lakers to pay for O'Neal. While a trade built around Odom and Kwame Brown would match O'Neal's salary, L.A. would be hard pressed to find a workable combination of players to send with Bynum (at least before July). Since Indiana doesn't have a draft pick, LA's 19th selection is an attractive piece.

One or the other, not both. Bynum could benefit from having O'Neal down low in practice. Its hard to really improve your game when your playing against the pansies thats hes playing with now.
so you got:
PG Farmar (TBD,)
SG Kobester
SF Walton
PF O'Neal
C Bynum
Still needs more work, definately need to get a vet PG
or even better, to win NOW
PG Farmar
sg Kobe
SF Walton
F Odom
C O'Neal
much better.... much better

PS> TRADE RADMONOVIC, The lakers had the perfect opportunity to void his 30 million dollar contract when he when snowboarding. That would have opened up some cash for B-b-b-Billups! Too late for that now

June 11, 2007  10:35 AM ET

I have always said that giving Bynum with Odom is a rip off, when Bynum could have been and maybe still can be used to obtain Kidd as well.

June 11, 2007  10:46 AM ET

The Nets desperately needs a 7 footer. We know that Bynum is going to be good one day but the Lakers can't wait and see. He played behind Kwame????? The Lakers need a PG and a PF. The focus should be Kidd and JO and Lewis or Artest if some people are willing to restructure their contracts. Kidd, Kobe. Lewis, JO and Webber. Sign Sprewell for the bench.

June 11, 2007  10:47 AM ET

I think that Bynum may be better than O'Neal next year. He has more experience now with another off-season, and O'Neal is getting slower/older and is injury prone. If the Lakers can stay healthy and get a good PG they might have something without giving up Bynum for O'Neal.

June 11, 2007  10:48 AM ET

I would send Bynum and Oden and whoever else for KG however.

June 11, 2007  10:50 AM ET

I wouldn't even trade Odom for Oneal straight up. Odom is too unique of a player. They need to be able to keep Odom and obtain J.Oneal.
STOPHATINKOBE's second lineup would be the most ideal:
1-FARMAR
2-BRYANT
3-WALTON
4-ODOM
5-ONEAL

June 11, 2007  10:50 AM ET

don't trade Bynum. Odom and Kwame is enough maybe Radmonovic but not Bynum.

June 11, 2007  10:52 AM ET

Jermaine O'neal to L.A I think this is not such a good idea. The reason, is if you have Kobe playing with Jermaine, these two will not get along. In the end Kobe will throw out another O'Neal from the lakers franshise. Too many memories of Shaq.

June 11, 2007  11:06 AM ET

Low shooting percentage? That's not the problem. The problem is that O'neal isn't even worth Odom or Bynum straight up. O'neal only plays 40 games a year, doesn't come through in the clutch and is a crybaby. That's the problem...and that's why these rumors about a trade to the Lakers are BS.

June 11, 2007  11:12 AM ET

God...who let egg-heads into sports? Field goal percentage? He has the ability to give you a legitimate interior game. That's something that Bynum has not been able to establish yet. And I don't want to hear how young he is because he signed up to go pro and has yet to take the job from Kwame freakin' Brown. Greg Oden hasn't stepped foot on an NBA floor, but it's a safe bet that he'd be penciled in ahead of Kwame...and Bynum has 2 years on Oden (NBA experience) So, do what you need to do to retool this team because it clearly doesn't work...especially out west. And for all those people who want Kobe to take a page out of LeBron's book as to how to lead your team, people it's the east! San Antonio is making that painfully obvious right now. It's also painfully obvious that Cleveland would be battling for a 6-8 seed out west. Trade Odom, Kwame, Bynum and the 19 if you have to. Because if those 3 can't help (7th seed), what is the 19th selection going to do?

June 11, 2007  11:28 AM ET

Just a correction to mikeb that I am sooooo tired of reading....

Kobe did NOT throw Shaq from L.A. !

Shaq left on his own demand,..

Please do a bit of study, and stop posting these myths...

June 11, 2007  11:31 AM ET

A legitimate interior game K11? JO likes to face up and shoot jumpers now...he's scared to bang inside because of all of his injuries. He'd be a huge detriment to the Lakers if they give up Odom and Bynum. Bynum actually showed some life late in the season for the Lakers and the fact remains that he's a legit 5 in the NBA that has the potential to be a good, athletic big. And the only reason he didn't start over Kwame Brown is money. Everyone in the L saw Kwame as good for nothing...except the Lakers who traded an All Star for him, lol. As for comparing Bynum to Oden, you're a moron. Oden not only has an NBA ready body (which Bynum never had), he's also a freakish athlete for his size...again, something that Bynum isn't. And I for one, do not think that Oden will be anything more than a defensive beast for his first season...he's going to a team with REALLY good talent in Portland that won't ask him to carry the load offensively. You can't compare Oden to Bynum as in their 2 totally different players. Defending JO though...that's the mark of a basketball ninkempoop! Peace...

June 11, 2007  11:34 AM ET

In no way do you trade Bynum but how do you replace Odom?

June 11, 2007  11:35 AM ET

bring him to L.A. now we need help here

June 11, 2007  11:37 AM ET

does anybody else think that we should trade mitch kupchak or is it just me?

June 11, 2007  11:48 AM ET

I think trading Bynum and Odom for JO would be to much to give for the Lakers. Maybe Odom and Brown... However, I think the best solution for the Lakers would be KG. He would really strengthen the Lakers and add the desperately needed rebounding. He would be worth Odom, Bynum or whatever the Wolves want. But just a big man is not enough to make the Lakers a serious contender. A PG is needed just as much. Maybe if the Lakers get rid of some expensive Players, they would have enough space to sign Mo Williams? Trade candidates could be Kidd, Bibby or maybe Devin Harris... I wouldn't recommend Artest, he's a good player and strong defender, but an incredible troublemaker, you just don't know what you get with him

June 11, 2007  11:53 AM ET

why is the snag Odom? He is not that good, can they not pick up a long athletic Foward in the upcoming draft? Maybe one that doesnt get injured every year

June 11, 2007  12:01 PM ET

DO NOT TRADE BOTH.Give up bynum and try to get rid of RADmanaloser.ODOM and O'neal would be great and then ODOM could be 3 option. But we would still need someone to run the triangle.Odom gave more to this team than Bynum did. He's a prodject and there's no patience in L.A. for multi year project.I understand what everyone says about Bynum but I'm not there yet.

jayfiggaz,
Moron?..Ninkempoop(?)...you seem to be close to the situation.
-So, keep the current team. Oh, that's right...a perenial 7th seed and 1st round exit as currently constructed.
-Well, keep Bynum. Damn, he'll just be getting aroung to his 'potential' when Kobe opts out.
-Odom is still there. Uhh..wait...it's been established that him as a #1 or 2 option makes you a mediocre team.
-Well, O'Neal only wants to shoot jumpers....yeah, and Tim Duncan looked good from 18 feet off the glass last night, huh.
-'The only thing Oden will be is a defensive beast this year': I'm sure Kobe and Phil would have taken that from Bynum. And since they play the same position, I'm comparing.
-As far as defending O'Neal, the man was in Indiana with no help...your numbers would suffer too. Oh...your number aren't relevant because you could not have played like myself with statements like 'the only thing Oden will be is a defensive beast in his first year'!!! I usually don't do that, but don't go with the sports talk show insults when your basketball IQ is lacking!
