Giants already miss Shockey

In case anyone needed a reminder that Jeremy Shockey was gone - as if the quiet summer wasn't a clue - it was all there on the film of the Giants' preseason opener in Detroit. And when tight ends coach Mike Pope watched it, he knew he had a lot of work to do. There were missed assignments, missed blocks, miscommunications, incorrect routes and a slew of other mental errors. For most of the last six years, with Shockey on his side, those were things Pope didn't have to worry about. Now he does.

Shockey had the same problem when he was drafted and still has a problem running the right routes at times. Boss was a rookie last year and showed great promise and potential. Yes, he'll make mistakes, but that's what happens when you try to transition from college ball to the NFL. No worries here and the Giants agree, so I don't know what FN is talking about or where they're getting their info from. Giants.com reports Boss doing great and improving immensely.

This will be just the beginning of the NYG demise. They'll be lucky to be .500 at the end.

What a Shockey! Every team undergoes changes but I think the Giants' changes made them not quite as good.

It's the New York Daily News - it's a rag.

DCruiser...You are right, but they had no choice. Shockey forced the move. Lucky to get a 2 and a 5 at that point for him. Pope has coached TEs for over 20 years with the Giants, he has taken some very ordinary talent and made them reasonably good players. I am more concerned about all the injuries to the WRs.

Funny, this was one of the papers reporting daily about Shockey's potential distraction during camp, and how he was completely at odds with the Giants.

Now, as if it's a surprise with very green tight ends, they are struggling with their current group. Wow - thats some news flash. You subtract a pro-bowl tight end who has been in the league for years, and you have 'work' to do. Shocker.

"There were missed assignments, missed blocks, miscommunications, incorrect routes and a slew of other mental errors."

Thats funny, because Shockey missed assignments, bungled communications with not just his QB but with his offensive line, and ran poor routes - many of which he blamed on Manning publicly.

This is making news. Not reporting news.

And BoBo...talk to me when your team wins a playoff game. Maybe it'll happen this year. Maybe not. 11 year draughts aren't too bad, unless you can't grow food.

Shockey's gone, NY Giants moved on. Its time the NY rags did the same.

Moondizzle, if you want to bring up the past, that is fine with me. But let's even go farther back in the past. Let's say to 1967. Since then, how many SB's have the Giants won? Count all of them twice and the Boys stil have more! Let's stay in the present dude. And the present is that the Giants blow like cheap two dollar **** with all the bad lisp.

I bet Coughlin does not miss him.

Quite the evaluation from this little snippet of an article.

I wanted Shockey to stay but he was such a dick!

no surprise here ...

misread - my bad

August 18, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Can't get any excitement from Moondizzle, but at least I'm getting to "Jackman". Hey "Jackman", your Giants are gonna get spanked this year! By the Cowboys, by the Eagles, by the Skins, and just about everybody else (unless the Bears are on their schedule). The Jets will end up with a better record than you guys.

August 18, 2008  08:45 AM ET

BoBo - wont work. I am already over your bluster. The same thing was said last year. Lets get the season started so you can start eating some crow.

August 18, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Game on Jackman! I promise to show up the day after our first game if you do....win or lose....to take the heat. You on?

August 18, 2008  09:01 AM ET

Yup BoBo, (states confidently while scrambling for the schedule), look forward to the banter.

August 18, 2008  09:12 AM ET

LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMBBBBBLLLLLEEEE!!

11 years without a breeze? That's hot.

Hasn't Shockey already gotten injured down in NO with a hammie? Yeah that is what I remember most about him.
