Suns to sign Nash's successor

If the Suns' belief in Goran Dragic as a Steve Nash successor proves as reliable as their hunch that they could sign him this year, then the four-year search for a reliable Nash backup has found its man. The mystery of the 22-year-old Slovenian's potential can begin to unravel now that the puzzle of bringing him to Phoenix was solved. Dragic reached a buyout agreement with his Spanish club, Tau Ceramica, on Saturday and spent Sunday on a flight to Phoenix with intentions of signing a four-year contract with the Suns, his agent, Rade Filipovich, said. The fourth year is a team option.

If they believe he is the future from Nash... I do not think so.

August 18, 2008  07:28 AM ET

drj0514@Did you ever see this guy plays? I don't think you did, and how can you make a judgement when you don't know him? Think before you write, man.

im'a Youtube this guy he could be not bad.

Who is their replacement for Grant Hill? Shaq? when their gone.....and Sean Marks.........

Gonna be interesting how this team pans out with free salary cap space once nash n' Shaq go and what options they will fit around AMARE.

August 18, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Dragic. That sounds like the combo of Dr. Dre and Magic.

August 18, 2008  08:47 AM ET

I feel they still need someone like Shaun Livingston, in case Dragic doesn't work.

August 18, 2008  08:50 AM ET

this guy is actually pretty good, haha Combo of Dre and Magic....
actually check this out he has some moves like magic

I find it hard to believe that he will be the next Nash just because Nash is such a unique talent. I think Phx is going to suck for a while before they totally rebuild around Amare.

August 18, 2008  10:06 AM ET

he aint nash but at this point he will prove to be one of the best backup PGs going around

nash is gonna seem even worse on defense once this guy gets into gear

the suns finally made a smart move

August 18, 2008  10:06 AM ET

I'd rather keep Nash on the team until he was 50.

August 18, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Is this the only picture of him we have in the USA. It's very Hannibal Lecter.

August 18, 2008  10:42 AM ET

The Suns are wagering an awful lot on this guy. This move could very well prove Kerr a genius or an idiot. I'll hold my vote, but let's just say, point guards don't grow on trees. Now that they've passed on all the available free agents, what's the plan if this guy doesn't work out?

August 18, 2008  10:52 AM ET

What about Barbosa? Why not groom him to be Nash's successor and Dragic to be Barbosa's successor?

August 18, 2008  11:02 AM ET

@Snowman - have YOU seen this guy play? Against NBA talent? Against guys in the Western Conference like Chris Paul and Deron Williams and Tony Parker? No? Think before YOU speak, Sir.

No knock on Barbosa because he is a very nice guy, but I hate his game. He has the same move over and over. He drives to the left and lays the ball in or takes a long open jump shot (he is a good shooter though).

I don't consider him a point guard. More like a 2 guard.

August 18, 2008  11:16 AM ET

Now they decided they want a backup PG

August 18, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Now they want a backup point guard.

kerr is right on par with ferry on the idiot gm bus. the suns made a bad trade bringing in shaq from miami. the suns still need some wing athletes and a pg that pressures the ball. they made no moves this summer (shocker). i hope kerr doesnt have all his eggs in one basket with this potenial signing

Until ANY foreign player actually plays in the NBA....I always anticipate the worst-

and Dennis....
" feel they still need someone like Shaun Livingston, in case Dragic doesn't work"

Livingston? he's basically one strong wind gust from shattering into pieces....why would you waste a roster spot on such a risk when you are (arguably) competing for a title

August 18, 2008  01:09 PM ET

This guy is no Nash. Yes he can score, but hasn't shown that he can run a team.

The only resembles with Nash - No D

what is that on his face... oh and this is not the answer to solve the phoenix problems
