Hansen's harsh words for UFC

DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix winner Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen recently spoke to Intheguard.tv and gave his thoughts on the UFC Lightweight division as well as why he most likely well never step foot inside the Octagon: "I would fight any one of the UFC lightweights, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (UFC) tried to be funny. I would rather have bleeding hemorrhoids than fight for the UFC. The Japanese MMA audience is the best in the world. They make magic! I would rather have one true Japanese MMA supporter than one million fake mainstream supporters that will turn their back on you as soon as you lose a fight. I don't care about things that are mainstream."

Who is this guy and why should we care what he thinks? It hilarious how people that can't get a job with UFC try to trash it. Hey, UFC may have problems but if UFC, of all companies, is turning you down, you must suck...

If he doesn't want to fight for UFC, he will NEVER get paid...that' just the way it is.

Wow, this is the same type of guy he plays music in his garage, happens to be really good, but can't get a record deal, and then bashes all other musicians for "not being true to the music" and going mainstream. Hahaha! The UFC doesn't want you.

Well put....who the F is this guy anyway?

do you mean to tell me that there are even lightweight haters?...this dude sounds like the guy at the dance who cant dance..he stands there all night and rags on all of the guys who actually have a girl...****

Hes actually a pretty good fighter, who would do well against bj if he came but seeing as hes too jaded to do that than thats just wishful thinking

August 18, 2008  03:20 PM ET

He's a very good fighter. I'd put him higher than sherk and just below penn. I do think he would give BJ trouble. The kid is an animal but appearantly also a d-bag. But hey, if Huerta ends up leaving the UFC, they may need to ring in another young talented fighter to replace him. Don't completely count out the possibilty of Dana trying to bring the kid into the octagon in a year.

Most of your comments basically sum up what hansen is saying... most of mainstream american UFC fans are ignorant and know nothing about MMA. those of you who don't know who hansen is are basically relative newcomers to the sport who were probably introduced to it by watching The Ultimate Fighter. hansen is a veteran fighter who has been fighting for nearly 10 years and has a win over takanori gomi (who is considered to be the #2 lightweight in the world). It's not that hansen can't get a job in ufc, he chooses not to fight in ufc, as has takanori gomi, eddie alvarez, shinya aoki, JZ, and most of the other top lightweights in the world. Aside from BJ Penn, the UFC has NONE of the other top 10 ranked lightweights fighting in their organization. they all fight overseas where hansen currently resides. just because you choose not to uproot your life and fight overseas in america doesn't mean you suck and are crappier than everyone in UFC.

Fedor is the dominant fighter in the world and chooses not to fight for UFC, that doesn't mean everyone in the UFC is better than him. in fact, it's the total opposite. Fedor is better than everyone in UFC's heavyweight division.

Spoken like a guy who will forever remain a relative unknown in the sport of MMA fighting.

August 18, 2008  08:31 PM ET

A6Fan-
Spoken like someone who thinks MMA only exists in America.

Joachim Hansen is a lot more well known in Asia and Europe than Kenny Florian or Joe Stevenson. And that outnumbers the population in the US. So in reality, Hansen is not a relative unknown....you're just not educated enough in the sport of MMA to know who he is.

MMA is worldwide. Open your mind a little bit more to realize that the world doesn't only exist in the United States and UFC.

the UFC wanted him to take a pay cut once they bought PRIDE (his contract transferred over). He said no and rightfully so. So the UFC sat him for the remaining time of his contract which was about 8 months. Hansen has the right to be pissed off and bitter with the UFC.

August 18, 2008  09:58 PM ET

they also did something similiar with Mark Hunt

August 18, 2008  11:56 PM ET

he's delirious though if he thinks all UFC fans are fake. i'm a huge UFC fan - and not just the fights - i watch the show as well. This c3@p happens in every sport! Sayonara!

August 19, 2008  12:09 AM ET

I personally hate watching mark hunt, also I doubt he would have wanted to cut weight to be the heavyweight class in UFC since we have a max weight for it I believe.

UFC champions will always be contested, til they let fighters fight abroad and not sign exclusive contracts. There is a reason why Matt Linland and Randy Couture refuse to fight in the UFC and isn't just money. Their trying to Monoplize the sport. Its just like MLB saying World Series Champions, and not playing the whole entire world.

Please, comparing MLB to the UFC and then making a stupid comment about the world series is just dumb. When they came up with the World Series name we were the only country playing baseball. Enough with the political correctness.

not really....those that are the most vocal about their MMA knowledge seem to understand the least....

August 19, 2008  09:36 AM ET

UFC is all about the money. They are only gonna pay a fighter if the fighter is worth it. This guy being on the fight card isn't going to get any additional viewers and thus no additional money. So, he isn't worth paying. Kimbo may not be more than commercialism but as a fighter he is worth the money. I'd bet that more than 50% of the people that watched that EliteXC were drawn to it by Kimbo being on the card...sheer curiosity....especially since UFC had a free fight night that night and no one would buy the PPV when there was a free alternative without a specific interest.....

This guy is like the kid that gets picked on in HS so he acts antisocial so it appears that a lack of friends is a personal choice rather than a lack of options...
