Favre wants simpler Jets offense
Brett Favre, in a radio interview yesterday, indicated that he spoke to coach Eric Mangini yesterday about trying to pare down the number of offensive plays in order for him to get comfortable as he crams for the start of the season. "I had a long talk with Eric," Favre said on 1050 ESPN Radio. "I don't want to think, I want to react. There's got to be some middle ground there. That's what we're trying to find. I'm trying to get as much digested as possible. "A lot of times you can make this as complicated as you want to." Favre indicated that the goal is to "simplify" things and "use the guys to the best of our ability." He said the Jets' offense "is totally different" from the Packers system he was in the last 16 years. "Some of the terms we used in Green Bay we use here, but they mean something totally different," he said.

I think the ridiculous NFL offenses should all be simplified - who needs plays like "Z Cross, X Post-38, 26 left smash on 1" just to say handoff to the left?

"I don't want to think". Not exactly what you want to hear from your quarterback but whenever a new guy comes in and they're unfamiliar with the system the new of plays is pared down until they get up to speed.

I have a feeling that Favre wakes up in the middle of the night screaming about what he has gotten himself into. What does it matter what play they call? Favre will end up rolling out and throwing the ball left handed behind his back anyway.

he's so right though... simplify... the game is based on reaction and the ability to improvise while staying in sync with what the rest of the players are reacting to....
it's about execution, just as much if not more, than x's and o's....

That's weird, the guy that thought he could walk into Green Bay and over-ride the owner, GM, and coach, already wants things his way with his new team. How about not going there if he didn't think he could handle their offense? It's not like the Jets are even known for having a particularly complicated playbook. God help him if he played for Martz. I can't imagine how much they'd have to dumb it down for him then. I'm so tired of Favre thinking he knows better than everyone else. "There needs to be some kind of middle ground" Not really. I'd like to see Mangini's reaction if Pennington or Clemmens had said that.

Some of you people are really stupid.
You DON'T want to have to think, when you are playing. You want to know every different angle of the playbook before you go out there.
Brett needs about 100 plays at this point. The playbook is probably over 400 plays with variations of each. At this point just get a comfort level and develope a groove.

Brett, you should have stayed retired. You will now have a sub-par season with the Jets and retire a loser. I used to think Brett Favre was one of the classiest, most respected players in NFL History. Now I think after this season, his name will be a joke. He's a dumbass for not taking the Packers deal to stay retired. F Brett.
