Ryan to start preseason game
The quarterback of the future will be the quarterback of the present. Matt Ryan, the first-round draft pick selected third overall out of Boston College, will start Friday's preseason game against visiting Tennessee, coach Mike Smith said. There has been no official decision about who Atlanta's starting quarterback will be when it opens the season Sept. 7 against the visiting Detroit Lions, Smith said. The coaching staff is still waiting for "clarity" among the four candidates -- Ryan, Chris Redman, Joey Harrington and D.J. Shockley -- before announcing that starter. That announcement might not come until after the preseason finale at Baltimore Aug. 28.

Ryan should sit for at least the first 6-8 weeks to allow the o-line to get in synch. No need to have the kid injured for a rebuilding season.

He didn't look ready to be the starter last week........ditto that PSU, I think he should hold a clipboard for a while.

I think the battle will come down to Ryan and Shockley. Harrington is garbage and Redman didn't show anything last year.

I agree about getting the O-Line situated before they put Matt in there. I believe he is going to a top QB someday. Atlanta made the right decision getting the kid from Exton, PA.

atlanta's offensive line is actually not as bad as every1 says. if baker and blalock can play to their ability then the left side of the line is good and the right side has plenty of experience
