Despite a report yesterday on a Swedish hockey website, the Bruins aren't planning to see Carl Soderberg, their top European prospect, here in Boston when training camp opens Sept. 19. "News to me," said general manager Peter Chiarelli, when asked about the report on hockeysverige.se that quoted Soderberg's agent, Claes Elefalk, saying the 22-year-old center still planned to come to Boston. "I talked to Soderberg [approximately] 10 days ago, and he told me he's not coming. Just after I talked to him, I talked to Claes, and it seemed we all understood the situation: The kid wants to play another year over there, and we're fine with that." Chiarelli said he spoke yesterday with agent J.P. Barry, Elefalk's partner in North America, and Barry was unaware of any change in Soderberg's plans.

Another year in Sweden. Can someone say that Carl Soderberg is important?

August 19, 2008  09:35 AM ET

"J.P Barry was unaware of any change in Soderberg's plans."
Guess that makes him 0 for 2 where he doesn't have a clue.
This is the same guy who is the agent for Sundin!
Break out the tylynol J.P. Of couse I sincerely appologize for bringing up Sundin in this thread. LOL

BGM will have this guy as important, I'm certain he will be pushing him for the Calder once he hits Beantown! With Soderberg in the Bruins lineup, they will go into every third period with a one goal lead and win 82 games and never have to play overtime or shootouts. This team will be so rested due to the less icetime that they will fly through the playoff rounds healthy and unscathed and be playing in the finals against the over aged Wings. And of course, Lucic will win the Conn Smythe and BGM's man crush will be complete with a marriage proposal soon to follow.

BGM...wedding party will consist of the following...
Bride- Lucic
Best man-Cam Neely
M.C- Joe Thornton
Bridesmaids- Kyle Wellwood-Kovalev-Sundin-(Oops, there's that name again)
and Alexander Daig and of course, Alexi Yashin.
Ushers- Spiny-Hank Kingsley-Gocanada-Roberts#1-T-Rocks-Oilersguy-Yoda and Baun-ded who will respecfully decline and send a gift instead. I'm thinkin a Jeff Finger sweater...

Wow! Amazing! The Bruins are finally in a position where they can say to a good prospect, "stay home, we don't need you this year!"

August 19, 2008  11:11 AM ET

AAnother indecisive Swede? What is with these guys?

August 19, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Baun-ded....you can be the ring boy. The ring girl will be Cassidy. LOL.

This article was actually on the Boston site. The Bruins didnt say "stay home". It was Soderberg that wanted to stay home? Why? He said that he didnt want to play in Providence. He'd rather play at home and develop over there. He also said that when he DOES come over here,he wants to play for the big club. I say the kid has to try out for the big club. Boston has some good prospects fighting to make the big club. This Soderberg kid is no different. He has to fight his way into the line-up as well. No wonder St. Louis traded him to us. I think the kid is a sh--it disturber.

Hey Bgm,
Is your real name Peter Chiarelli?
Did you allow T&R to use your real photo just so it would plug a slot from another Mats Sundin photo?
Did they pay you? Or did you do it just for the exposure?

August 19, 2008  02:42 PM ET

Hhahaha...Yoda...IF i was the real GM,theres no way i'd sign Ryder to 4 million per year. I wouldve offered him 2.5 million per year for 2 years. Maybe just 2 million per year. We wouldve still had Brad Boyes as well. I should send in an application anyways. Hhahaha.

August 19, 2008  03:25 PM ET

Why the **** should he go overseas and play for a minor league team, when he can develop in Sweden, whose league is by far better than the minor leagues over in the States. Is there a reason why he can't compete for a spot on the roster over in Sweden? If the scouts can't compare him to the players they have in Providence, they shouldn't be ******ng scouts in the first place. I don't know how old the kid is, but back in Sweden I'm quite sure he has a lot of security in family and friends, which carries a long way for a young prospect.

How could Cassidy be the ring girl (isn't it flower girl, by the way?)? Wouldn't s/he be the best man?

How bad is it when JP Barry's name is becoming synonymous with the FN hockey threads? We shouldn't even know who any of the agents are, but we get an update from Barry every day.

August 19, 2008  03:37 PM ET

I think the gm wanted to know how he'd play with the other prospects and to see how far he has developed. He coulda also have been brought up in case of injuries happened (they will happen). The B's also did not draft him. We got him for Toivonen.

I also agree with the security issue. He does have a countrymen in the B's farm team though. (Rask). My gm was pretty disappointed that he didnt want to come here and try out. He wouldnt have made the team anyways. There is one forward thats almost a lock to playing with the big club this year : Blake Wheeler. From my understanding there is only 1 spot thats up for grabs. Its Wheelers to lose. The kid is 22 years old. Next year he'll have his best chance. Not unless my GM trades him that is. He also had a severe eye injury a year ago,but he grown accustomed to playing with limited vision.

August 19, 2008  03:40 PM ET

Oh yeah,Cassidy can be the "flower-girl". Baun-ded could be the ring boy.

August 19, 2008  08:22 PM ET

How about Soderberg,Axelsson and Schaefer to the Leafs for Kaberle? I think it make sense. Toronto wants to play D. Axelsson is a good defensive forward. Schaefer showed what he could do at the end of the season. He's a decent 2 way player that battles along the boards.

Lat year I visited Pgh and Det. I intended to spend money at Boston games this year. They need something and Soderberg doesn't seem to be the thing. That is the thing to smoke the Pens and Flyers and Caps.

A combo of a Swedish Smorgasboard of Forsberg, Nilsson, Lundqvist, Eklund and the three amigos who helped themselves to that girl might help. Um that was 2005 or 6.

I just got another hate memo from SI that ends "keep it clean" yesterday. Any sensitive soul can just leave a note. I don't know what I wrote. I don't care.
