Eagles desperate for fullback?

The Eagles' search for a full-time fullback took another turn yesterday morning when coach Andy Reid dropped this surprise during his morning news conference. Tony Hunt is getting a look. What's to lose? The Eagles tried Dan Klecko at fullback before agreeing it was best to return him to defensive tackle. The staff obviously is not pleased with starter Jason Davis. Undrafted rookie Jed Collins has been working out a lot with the first-team offense lately. And Hunt, at 6-foot-1, 227 pounds, did have that impressive 51-yard touchdown scamper down the sideline in Thursday's preseason win over Carolina. He also made a couple of tackles on kick coverages.

most teams in the nfl need a fb. nobody wants a real fb anymore. they want an extra blocker.

Not really. Just a fullback. Oh and a #1 WR. Actually just the fans are desperate for that...Big Red is content with a bunch of #3's which is a joke.

missing from eagles super bowl run:

a) #1 WR
b) stud MLB

that's it.

Westbrook doesn't need a FB, and they compete well at all other positions. Dark horse for the SB

So many haters in here. Andy will have the boys ready for the season, and the Eagles will return to the top of the NFC East....without a true #1 WR. The defense will be a big surprise this year. I am going to equate it to how the Packers D performed last year.

If your Dumb*** remembers, Winston Justice started that game at Tackle against the Giants. That won't happen again, trust me. We will dominate the Giants this year.

August 19, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Oh, I can't wait for those stinkin' Cowgirls to blow up again this year. Jessica A.K.A. Tony will fumble again, and T.O. will have another breakdown and cry over his QB. They have all of this talent....too bad the coach is terrible. Oh yeah, don't they have an assistant who is making more than the head coach.....that's just a disaster waiting to happen.

August 19, 2008  09:19 AM ET

It's a good move. Hunt will be solid at that position. After 1 year off the Eagles will be back atop the East division.

mcinjury gets hurt every year, and you guys base your team around that overated worthless wanna be QB.

im not hating, im jus saying

eagles are far fromsuperbowl. they need 2 recievers, a WHOLE o-line, 2 linebackers, and a better special teams( cough cough green bay week 1 last year)

August 19, 2008  10:15 AM ET

im pretty sure my hometown buffalo will pull thru this year, and since i HATE dallas and NY id hope mcnabb stays healthy and philly wins the div

August 19, 2008  10:16 AM ET

-loki-

if ANYONEs D preforms like GB last year, then theyr playoffs caliber, i hope we stay healthy to, and rookie CB pat lee is a good suprise, we might have ourself an even better pass D. phily has some good corners also, but im afraid to sya dawkins is wearing down, and idnt evenknow tho their otther saftey is

There are still plenty of great pure blocking FBs/TE's in the league or on waiver wires to pick up. The problem here is they are probably looking for a "finesse" FB who can catch, run & block and that's not going to happen. Reid needs to come to terms that he will not find a gem like this and go with a pure bulldozer to help Westbrook out from time to time. Sure, with the FB in, teams will know to key on the running attack, but at the same time, the Eagles gain an advantage at giving Westbrook a better chance at getting to the 2nd level untouched.

Wait, you mean like when we signed TO and got Trotter back and went to the Super Bowl? Is that the angle you are leaning towards. Worked pretty good that year. But honestly I think the LBs will be very good...young and quick...I love Desean Jackson, but they need that guy on the outside who scares people. With that said, I can still see them making a run as is AS LONG AS 5 stays healthy all year.
