Titans center defends Young
Titans center Kevin Mawae said everybody should lay off Vince Young, and that criticism of the third-year quarterback's poor preseason start is unfair. Young is 7-of-19 passing (36.8 percent) in two games and the offense has produced just three points in the seven drives he's engineered. "Everybody gets caught up in the passing accuracy and completion percentage and stuff like that, but the one stat that matters the most in this locker room is winning,'' Mawae said. "Vince has proven himself to be a winner. All the stuff that happens in the preseason will be forgotten about in about two weeks.'' At the end of last season, Mawae said Young needed to be more of a student of the game. On Monday he said Young has spent more time in the playbook than ever before, is working hard and will be prepared for the regular season opener on Sept. 7.

team's that play "well" in the pre-season tend to play under .500 in the regular season. nothing wrong with a team using the pre-season to tune up and test out players, positions, and depth.

You know pw, that's what I always thought pre-season was for. That's why (imo) the number of pre-season games doesn't need to be shortened.

Lady's Coach Belicat ..Could not agree more. I do not hear coaches screaming for fewer pre -season games. Those games are needed to evaluate players and get things in order and in game shape. Look at all the starters who have not even played a game yet because of injuries ( mostly ham string and lower body).

Preseason games shouldn't cost regular season prices though.

Agreed. Lower the price, don't shorten pre-season. There, all fixed. =]

I find it a little disturbing that the center thinks that everyone gets too caught up in how effective or ineffective the starting QB is against half starters and half players trying to make the practice squad....I kinda think that completing passes, getting yardage, and scoring points are rather important when it comes to your team's QB...

loki, v. young is an accurate passer, regardless of the stats. watch a game or two and you'll see that he just has the WORST starting receivers in the league and drop everything in reach. now that they've brought in an ageing algernon crumpler the third, who still has game, his % will go up, but not his yardage. but get the man a quality WR, for flips sake.

I'm just glad Kevin Mawae didn't say, "Sniff, that's my quarterback, sniff, sniff."

"uhh the jints went undefeated in the preseason and they won the superbowl"
well if you'd like to take pre-season teams that went undefeated for the past 30 years and i'll take all the teams with losing records in pre-season, guy with the most teams in the superbowl, wins. how much you want to wager? we just need to figure out a middle man to hold the cash...

i've been thhe first to defend VY for the last 2 seasons, but i've seen every down he has played this preseason, and whether one wants to blame the receivers, vince, or the O-line, the passing game looks worse than ever... and any way you cut it, VY has looked just awful. my confidence for this team has all but evaporated. Jacksonville is gonna eat these guys for breakfast sept 7 unless Fisher/ Heimerdinger have thuss far been hiding all the plays that actually work.
