Dolan: Knicks not for sale

Speculation has been simmering for weeks that the Dolan family business, Cablevision, might be willing to sell Madison Square Garden, the Knicks, and Rangers, as a way to placate shareholders and investors unhappy with the company's flagging stock price. Knicks fans, unhappy with Dolan for reasons related to his flat-lining basketball team, no doubt rejoiced upon hearing the news. Not so fast, though. James Dolan's gesture to investors - allowing them to voice concerns during a "listening tour" last week - seems to have been little more than a head fake. People knowledgeable about MSG in particular, and the sale of sports franchises in general, tell Newsday that it's premature to run out onto Seventh Avenue traffic and celebrate Dolan's departure from the Garden of Ills.

Trump! Somebody called the Donald.

No way Dolan is selling teh Knicks...but you can never say never.

But Marbury can be had for cheap!

August 19, 2008  07:55 AM ET

I just called Dolan to buy the Knicks. He said they are not for sale. End of story.

August 19, 2008  08:25 AM ET

For the love of God sell the Knicks, Rangers and MSG. Nothing would make me happier then to have Fredo Dolan away from my teams.

He has finally hired a coach that will make the Knicks play a style that reflects the spirit of the city... why would he sell when he is so close to the silver lining.. by the way is Marbury still a Knick?

"He has finally hired a coach that will make the Knicks play a style that reflects the spirit of the city... why would he sell when he is so close to the silver lining.. "

huh?
the 'spirit of the city' ?
and just where you you see this magical silver lining. ?

at BEST (and I am a knicks fan)......
there is NO WAY we even COMPETE for the 8th playoff spot for 2-3 YEARS- and it will take 4-5 years just to MAYBE get towards the top 4 seed.

The only chance we have of improving is to DUMP all contracts and HOPE to get one of the big free agents in a couple of years......is THAT your silver lining? a possible run at a free agent?

August 19, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Who wants to buy at their prices???? If you think the silver lining is next year.. wow... guess all can dream.

The coach believes in the talent and the system is proven to deliever results... the system has averaged 58 wins per season in the last four years... and there is no Isaiah to corrupt the minds of the garden youth... we will win.. I'm calling Donahue right now!!!

August 19, 2008  09:08 AM ET

The Knicks blow. Let's be serious for a minute. They need to keep moving forward by adding young talent and dumping all those horrific contracts. Stop signing players like Chris Duhon.

August 19, 2008  09:16 AM ET

Lostwill,

The system requires players, of which, the Knicks have none. They have made no significant trades in the off-season and they drafted a Euro player.

BTW, Marbury is still a Knick and will remain a Knick to start the season.

August 19, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Who cares?, the NBA is FIXED.

August 19, 2008  10:10 AM ET

The Knicks aren't for sale. Isaiah won't let Dolan sell.

They'll have to pry it from his cold dead hands

August 19, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Cuz the team should be free to the next dumbest owner.

August 19, 2008  11:04 AM ET

HOPE... every cloud will be pass... the Knicks will be great again..

August 19, 2008  11:13 AM ET

This means Dolan feels there is still MORE damage that can be done here?
What's next? Something involving Roger Clemens becoming the new Marketing Manager? Perhaps an Anucha Brown bobblehead doll day?
Dolan is going for your souls New Yorkers. You should put out a contract on em.

August 19, 2008  11:14 AM ET

He won't sell on his own. The NBA is going to have to force him out. That place is just a part of the conglomerate of stupidity that is Cablevision.
