The Bengals are expected to announce today that they have re-signed wide receiver Chris Henry to a one-year contract. He must first take a physical and be examined by the team's medical staff. He had been released April 3 after his fifth arrest as a Bengal. Charges against Henry were later dismissed. He had been under house arrest in his downtown Cincinnati apartment and forced to wear an electronic monitor on his ankle. The Bengals had no official comment, public relations director Jack Brennan said Monday night. But multiple sources confirmed the pending deal to The Enquirer. Henry will be no immediate help to the team's wide receiver problems. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Henry for the first four games of the season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Well, if anyone will know what baggage he carries, its the Bungels...err...I mean Bengals.

August 19, 2008  06:23 AM ET

i thought marvin lewis said this guy would never be back, but iguess desperate measures call for desperate actions. I know if he gets arrested again after this then he truly is the DUMBEST athelete alive. But then again he probably won't have any choice but to succeed because his leash will be shorter than Gary Coleman.

Wow, talk about taking a risk. Goodell said that teams could start to be punished if their players run wild. So this is a big risk for the Bengals. If Henry messes up, the Bengal will, and should, be punished as well.

August 19, 2008  07:00 AM ET

NO. this can't be happening.

August 19, 2008  07:36 AM ET

It's only a matter of time before the fit hits the shan.

August 19, 2008  07:40 AM ET

this has "mike brown" written all over it. i can see marvin leaving cincy after this season.

August 19, 2008  07:44 AM ET

And Cincy has been trying to dump the "Bungles" nickname and they pull this stunt......

August 19, 2008  07:47 AM ET

GoPSULions....did you (we) actually believe that ANY pro sport was really going to crack down the way they should?! It's hilarious that at holiday times you have to whiz in a cup if you want to work for the post office for the holiday season but be a pro athlete and be a complete moron and be a millionaire. There's something really wrong with that.....

August 19, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Check the rule book....is he allowed to wear the ankle bracelet for home games?

NOW I realize the Bengals uniforms remind of the inmate orange. I saw this dude picking up trash on the side of the highway.

blackasiansbackbaby!

August 19, 2008  08:21 AM ET

this just verify's what a joke of a franchise the Bengals are... they should have traded Chad, and moved on from Henry.... Palmer was the only right thing they have done in years...

oh yeah, and start Chris Perry for god's sake.....

August 19, 2008  08:32 AM ET

"this just verify's what a joke of a franchise the Bengals are"
you mean mike brown.

"they should have traded Chad"
no.

"and moved on from Henry"
blame mike. he's not paul.

"Palmer was the only right thing they have done in years... "
mike had nothing to do with this.

"and start Chris Perry for god's sake.."
he plays whenever he's not hurt. great player, no durability though.

August 19, 2008  08:34 AM ET

Why? ...

August 19, 2008  08:36 AM ET

what? you thought they were serious about cleaning up the organization? They just did all of this for the media's benefit while waiting for it to blow over....If they were serious about cleaning out the trash, they would have cut Chad Johnson.

Another Mountaineer mugger!!!!!

August 19, 2008  08:53 AM ET

"you thought they were serious about cleaning up the organization? They just did all of this for the media's benefit while waiting for it to blow over.."

marvin is serious about. mike brown is not. and now brown's move has cost marvin his respect in the locker room. signing henry will be the end of the bengals season. under 500 here it comes..

Marvin's official statement on the Henry situation from 2 weeks ago speaks volumes about who is to blame for the mess to come: "We keep spending all this time on the knuckleheads instead of on the good guys; that's a problem," Lewis said. "When you spend all your time coaching knuckleheads and not spending the right amount of time with the right players in the right direction because you're putting out fires over here, putting out fires over there ... ."

August 19, 2008  09:19 AM ET

how is this going to make the bengals lose games? the only thing its going to do is make us look bad.

there have been multiple reports that the locker room wants him back b/c they know more than any of you idiots that he is a stud and can make a change. if tj and cj are really that banged up, who the hell is going to catch balls to move the chains.

i dont condone any of henry's actions. he better learn that he has to become a man NOW if he wants to succeed in the worlds greatest sport.........

Yeah, well this proves that the Bengals do not stick to what they say. Chad will probably be traded as well.
