Braves want Kotsay back in '09

Mark Kotsay has made enough of an impression this season that his manager and Braves teammates have been saying lately they'd love to have him back next year. Kotsay is a free agent after the season. It was understood before the season started that he would be a one-year bridge to Jordan Schafer in center field for the Braves. But that was before Schafer was suspended 50 games for the use of HGH and lost momentum in his minor-league progress. That would leave the door open at least to the possibility of a Kotsay return.

Kotsay has been a good addition but I hope the Braves front office doesn't waste a whole bunch of FA dollars on him......we need some quality starters for the rotation. And Schafer's BA has been going downhill ever since he came back from his suspension.

heck no stick blanco in center and let him run like nixon used to do back in the day. go to the kids bravos

Dear Braves:

Are you sure you do not want Andruw Jones back in CF???

August 19, 2008  09:56 AM ET

You know the Braves are in trouble when you read an article like yesterday's
"Jo Jo Reyes to start for Tom Glavine"

August 19, 2008  10:40 AM ET

I would tend to think the Braves would want to go younger than Kotsay.....and go with their kids. They're a few years away from contention, probably

Even I am ashamed of what they have become

August 19, 2008  11:23 AM ET

The Braves also want Dale Murphy back.

HA! Kotsay may be an average CFer, but he is definitely an upgrade over the current Andruw model..... Kotsay is a good option since the Braves don't believe that their minor league players have developed yet..... he was only meant to be a bridge to the future and it looks like that bridge needs to last one more year.... we'll need a power hitter in left, however, to offset Kotsay's lack of power.... and Francoeur's meltdown, which hopefully won't be repeated next year.....

I like Blanco a lot..... his hustle and speed are refreshing..... however, let's be real.... the guy is a fourth outfielder, perhaps half of a platoon at best...... he hits .260 with no power. His defense is also not great. That's not a major league starter..... I realize his OB% is good and he has some intangibles, but still.....

Spam x2, I watched the glory years of the Braves when I was stationed at Ft. Stewart, and Hunter Army Airfield, GA. in the early 90's. I get the feeling them days are now long gone.

Rebuilding.... not as bad as you might think..... except for Hudson and Chipper the entire team is young..... need two starting pitchers and a leftfielder, assuming we keep Kotsay for another year..... losing Hudson for most of next year is the big killer, however..... that's 15-18 wins down the drain..... So, we need a legit #1 start from the FA pool, which is going to be a tough competition....

I'm partial to Single Malt Scotch.... or a Bombay Sapphire Martini..... with cheap Vodka and Tequila for the every day high..... Southern Comfort tends to cause me to yawn in technicolor, especially if I drink the whole bottle..... Bartles and James is just a revolting thought..... I might take your man card just for mentioning it....
