Schilling leaning toward retirement

Curt Schilling says he's leaning "very heavily" toward retirement and is waiting until spring training approaches to see if he wants to try to pitch again. The Boston Red Sox right-hander, who underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on June 23, said in his most recent blog entry that his shoulder "is getting better fast" and "I've still got a rather lengthy amount of time before I decide anything." Still, he said on 38pitches.com that "the pendulum is swinging very heavily in the direction of it just being over. I've never sat around and not gotten ready to head to Florida, well not in 23 or so years anyway, so to me that will likely be the last real test for me and whether or not I want to put the time and effort into getting after it one more time."

At least he got the Red Sox to pay several million dollars for his first year of retirement.

let me translate> if there is any way I can steal another few million from the red sox to do nothing like this year...Why not?

You mean going after those chicken wings? Ask Papi, he's got some in his locker.

Time and effort? What effort does he put into it? I can just picture him during the winter...."push it...you gotta want it Curt, one more, one more man, come one ONE MORE CREAM STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please dude, lean all the way to that bloody floor by your ugly right ankle. Just make sure your under the camera view so we don't have to see you anymore. And let's hope you hurt your jaw so you won't talk either.

August 19, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Why retire? If someone paid me $8 million a season to do absolutely nothing, I'd stick with that position as long as I could.

August 19, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Schilling=Roger Clemens

he is going to retire multi times to see what he can get from any time out there
