Expect Leyland to return in '09
Jim Leyland took umbrage to the inquisition, blasting a TV reporter after another disastrous day Sunday for asking whether the manager would return next season. He thought it was a stupid question, but Leyland has himself to blame for that line of questioning. Leyland, 63, has never been fired as a major league manager, always leaving of his own volition, usually one step before ownership applies a padlock to its wallet -- as was the situation in Pittsburgh and Florida. Of course he's not going anywhere. He has invested too much emotionally in baseball's resuscitation in Detroit. He's mad at what has occurred this season -- at himself, at his players, at the fickle whims of fate. But there's absolutely no sign of personal concession in his actions as the season erodes into unqualified embarrassment.

Gee, what a shock, Leyland took umbrage with a question? Any question could set this redass off. Next season's his last, bank on it kids. He's the Larry Brown of MLB, he's wired too tight to be a long term fix.

Someone has got to take a hit for this debacle. Best guess would be pitching coach Chuck Hernandez. If Leyland wouldn't have been so stubborn by playing Sheffield this year things may have turned out a bit differently. One can only imagine how many more games they would have won if Sheffield didn't kill so many potential rallies with double plays and pop outs. Leyland will be back but for the love of sports....FIRE MILLEN!

Leyland will be back. However look for Chuck Hernandez to get the axe. They will also get rid of Sheffield, Rayburn, and Nate Robertson for sure. There will be others. Dombrowski will get this thing straightened out.

Leyland did pull a Manny when he was at Colorado. Did not like the talent then (who would have) and coasted until he quit.

One thing Leyland doesn't have, is class. You can't teach that. He is typical rednecker. He needs anger management classes. He is a real idol for the young sports fan. Someone to look up to. NOT!

Leyland has lots of class. He just has no tolerance for idiot sportswriters who ask assinine quesitons over and over. The players on the team have a great deal of respect for him. He does not need to impress you. Not his job
