Sundin long shot for Flyers

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren didn't sound like a man on the verge of signing free-agent center Mats Sundin yesterday. Sundin, 37, an eight-time all-star, has drawn interest from several teams, including the Flyers. Holmgren's interest seemed exploratory, and it remained a long shot that the Flyers, already about $1 million over the NHL's $56.7 million salary cap, would be able to afford Sundin. "Personally, I'd like it to all go away," Holmgren said of the rumors that the Flyers were in the mix for Sundin. "What's the sense when we don't even know if he's going to play yet?" Holmgren has had conversations with Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, and the general manager said the agent still wasn't sure if Sundin would play again. Sundin will decide this month, Holmgren said.

And so say all of us.
Can we make Holmgren temporary editor in chief for T&R?

Bravo!!!!!

Nobody cares anymore. Nobody except hockey reporters with absolutely nothing to write about. Maybe Cueball is like a bug bite ignore it and it eventually fades away?

August 20, 2008  08:06 AM ET

There are a bunch of other **** teams that don't want either.

"Personally, I'd like it to all go away,"

Personally I'd wished he had substituted the name Egghead instead of "it".
Sundin's indecisive attitude has done nothing to endear himself or his legacy to the NHL, it's fans or General Managers. Not to mention his own agent.
It's going to be a pleasure to watch the Leafs make the playoffs this year without him!

"I've grown accustomed to your face" ( forget the melody )........

No you didn't...there never was a melody on that "song".

August 20, 2008  08:36 AM ET

IN FACT...I don't find much cadence in Sundin's summer long song nor jazz in his dance either!
And speaking of the omelette tete, this just in on the daily news...
"Keep away from Maple Leaf foods!
Just thought the GM's should be aware of this warning!

August 20, 2008  08:49 AM ET

Speaking of food...How come Tim Horton's doesn't have a doughnaught called, The Puck? I mean the closest thing they have is a Maple variety.
Seems sensible to me.
On another note, North America can thank the Toronto Maple Leafs for the popularity of Tim Horton. Truly this might have been the biggest influential signing of all time. Without it, there would be no Tim Horton franchises and North American would not be getting their daily infusion of caffine and sugar. And just look at all those great little Timmy camps for kids.
In fact, without Tim Horton's, there might not be any fashionable doughnaught chains at all. Truly an original.
Now all together gang.
THANK YOU TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS FOR TIM HORTON!
I think I'll take a double double to stay and ONE TO GO for Sundin.

August 20, 2008  08:57 AM ET

And sadly, since Tim Horton's day the Leafs have not raised the Stanley cup...It seems our legacy in Toronto is now raising the coffee cup.
Well, I guess that's not a complete loss.

August 20, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Pass the cream please...Hey wait a minute....I'm all alone with no one to pass to or from...Hey, that sounds like I'm actually Joe Thornton!
Okay, so here I am, Joe Thornton, sitting in Tim Horton's with no fan adulation or autographs to sign...Lets see, there's a newspaper...
Hey what's this Headline, Hmmm, STAY AWAY FROM MAPLE LEAF FOODS!
Gee...does that include Tim Hortons? I ask myself, since there is nobody else around. Well I could aske the counter girl, although she seems to only speak french and looks like a discus thrower...Maybe she can play on my line...I could use an enforcer...Oh well, I wonder how Ron's doing in Toronto, maybe he'll call me, Yeah I'd like that, I miss Ron...maybe he can get Cliff to swing a deal to get me to play for him in Toronto...Yeah...that sounds good. Maybe I'll meet him for coffee...at Timmys.
