Kinsler won't rule out '08 return

All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler said Tuesday he will wait two weeks to see how his sports hernia responds before deciding how to proceed. He said if the injury continues to get better, he could return from the 15-day disabled list instead of opting for season-ending surgery. "Surgery is definitely not on my lifetime checklist," Kinsler said. The post-surgery recovery time is six to eight weeks. With less than six weeks left in the regular season, having the surgery now or in two weeks doesn't matter.

Hmm, maybe too many idiots are locked in to following the frontrunning teams only and forget that there are other teams in MLB. But, nobody can say anything bad about Kinsler, can they? The guy is a heck of a player.

Stupid move to force the issue. Texas has a ridiculously potent offense already and are 15 games out of 1st place. Rest up and have a monster campaign next year - no need to risk a more severe injury.

Amazing how quickly people can come back from procedures like that. In the 80's a hernia operation was like a 2-3 day stay at the hospital.

The only reason to not hang it up for the season is to improve personal stats which is understandable. Plus he probably loves to play the game. Hope he doesn't create bigger injury probs by coming back. Despite the record, the Rangers still had a successful season. With Kinsler & Hamilton as a nucleus I see a team starting to gel. I expext them to be a force to reckon with next year.

I agree with Buckner.....why push an injury like that to get back for the last three weeks? If I was a Rangers fan, I'd just want him to pack it in and be completely healthy by spring.

August 20, 2008  12:58 PM ET

Yep, just shut it down and get the procedure done. Why risk a more serious hernia when your team's out of the hunt?

August 20, 2008  01:59 PM ET

He's a great player to bad he got injured.

Better just get the surgery, Ian. It'll end up being better and easier on your body in the long run. Might as well correct the problem now. If the Rangers were in a pennant race, then it'd be a different story.
