Boldin-Cardinals relations getting ugly

Anquan Boldin stood outside the building on a serene college campus, praised the Cardinals for signing him to a contract extension and called it "a tribute" to what the team was trying to accomplish. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, that was a different time (three years ago) and a different place (Prescott). Now, Boldin is in Flagstaff calling team officials liars and saying his relationship with coach Ken Whisenhunt has soured to the point that he doesn't talk to his boss. Those are damaging words from a player whom coaches, management and media have propped up as the new icon of the organization. Team officials pointed at Boldin and told scouts that this is the kind of player they wanted. They pointed at Boldin and told players that this is how you practice; this is how you conduct yourself off the field. Now the relationship has devolved into accusations and denials. The Cardinals have been adamant in their refusal to consider trading Boldin, at least for now. The Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys supposedly could use a receiver, but the Cardinals aren't likely to deal with those teams, which happen to be on the Cardinals' 2008 schedule.

I just don't know how much of this is Boldin and how much of it is Rosenhaus.
To go from a team role model with a three-year contract extension to a disgruntled employee in such a short time leaves me with more questions than answers.

August 20, 2008  07:48 AM ET

It's mostly Rosenhaus. He's a terrible agent.

August 20, 2008  07:53 AM ET

Trade him to the Pats so Brady can break his own records...Boldin, Welker and Moss...oh my!

August 20, 2008  08:07 AM ET

Just once I would like to see a player and his agent declare that they have " Underplayed their contract and want it negotiated down to their true value.".....It seems to me that Rosenhaus has under represented his clients in the past...

August 20, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Rosenhaus is such a jerk and if Boldin don't be careful, he's going to be watching instead of playing football..

August 20, 2008  08:08 AM ET

The Skins would be a great fit. Agree C-Smith that Rosenhaus is the main culprit.

August 20, 2008  08:33 AM ET

the bears could use a reciever

August 20, 2008  08:59 AM ET

shame the nfl couldn't ban Rosenhaus from speaking to players during the pre-season and season.

August 20, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Since the quotes from Boldin are almost word for word the same as T.O. it appears to me Rosenhaus is running the show. We will know for sure when DR says "No Comment, next..." No one forced the Boldin camp to sign the contract he currently has, especially the length of it. Players in the NFL should understand that having Rosenhaus as an agent usually means you will change teams a lot and get branded as a trouble maker.

No kidding. Or even have the team suggest they renegotiate after a couple of dog seasons by the player. Never going to happen but wouldn't it be nice.

August 20, 2008  09:35 AM ET

Eagles better make the trade for him NOW. NOWWWWWWWWWWWW

August 20, 2008  09:37 AM ET

No ... Fitzgerald got paid big ... then boldin sees Jevon Walker sign a crazy deal with the Raiders ... he wants some of that cash.

August 20, 2008  09:37 AM ET

AS much as I love Q, the Cards have major contracts to adress next year and in my eyes Boldin ain't one, we got Dansby, Ad Wilson, Dockett wants to renogotiate, and I would he good and important, Antonio Smith, Kurt Warner, but I could see us letting him walk, unless he wants backup money or Leinart is a bust, so I say trade Q and get #1 pick

August 20, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Be careful what you wish for azcardsfan, Boldin is one of the best WR's in the league. We will see how many balls Fitzgerald sees without Boldin on the other side.

And, cashmere, the Bears need a QB to throw to Boldin...an Oline to protect that QB..and a RB to take pressure off the passing game. They have none of the 3.

Why would the Skins break the bank and give up a 1st round pick, if not more, for a WR, when they just drafted 2 big, young WR's in the 2nd round in this year's draft?

August 20, 2008  10:06 AM ET

This is off topic, but I'm a wealthy single, looking for a younger unattached person to enjoy my wealthy lifestyle with. If only there was like a website I could go to and find such a person.

Anyway, Boldin would look good in a Cowboys jersey.

August 20, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Dang, they removed the spammers comments. Now mine make no sense. Foiled again.

August 20, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Ummm...Ravens anyone?

Suggs (because he's slightly disgruntled for similar reasons) for Boldin would be an even deal that would make both teams better. Suggs also played at AZ State, so he could go back to his roots.

A trade like that would be akin to the Champ/Portis trade a few years ago.

C'mon Jerry Jones, make a deal for Boldin. TO won't be there forever.
