Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates will need to find another sponsor for Juan Pablo Montoya in 2009 because Texaco sponsorship will dry up at the end of the season. Texaco/Havoline is leaving NASCAR and therefore will not return to the #42 next season, Ganassi officials said Tuesday. Ganassi is now looking for sponsors for Montoya for half of next season.

You know thats a bunch of crap Texaco..........record profits for oil companys. How can you justify that this isnt good exposure for a fuel???

August 20, 2008  09:18 AM ET

I think Juan sucks as a Cup driver but he's a great rep for Texaco. And jackmans right, what about the record profits? I guess that means they don't need the exposure.

this fellow asked 2 times to be added
to my friends list which I did,he sends
fanmail asking where I have been as of

around and slams me on th T & R
with the remarks below,,I'am setting
the record stright = I'am NOT
reporting anyone on here at all,I'am
Not a self professed Moderator,
anyone who truely Knows me, knows
I'll argue with you all day long, If
I know I'm right..Sorry to bother

I had to speak my peace.

I leveled with you about my personality and what i do a while back. When they swarm to their buddy's rescue next time read the initiatin argument and you will see the true origins. If i am at fault so be it, but if it is with the DR then I will guarantee you all the groupies will jump in and point the fingers at me. And to make this PERFECTLY clear, I NEVER once reported anyone. You know how I roll...I love confrontation so why would I want it to stop? (((SLY is the one who has reported EVERYONE because he thinks he is the board police and is asst. moderator))). Read back some and see what I mean....there are 3 people that consider this board theirs and everyone else is just a guest and therefor WRONG in any post they make.

Not worth commenting on anymore.

August 20, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Another ex-IRL driver who can't keep a sponsor. Anyone see a trend?

August 20, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Well, considering that Ganassi, Penske and Robby Gordon Motorsports are just carpetbaggers in NASCAR, I'm not shocked. These teams are just hear to take up space and should get out of the way for the real NASCAR teams. Go back to CART.

August 20, 2008  09:48 AM ET

First the good drivers bail out on Ganassi, the fans slam them mercilessly and now the sponsors dump them. Seems like ol Chip is a disease nobody wants a part of.

August 20, 2008  09:49 AM ET

O. My bad. Robby Gordon Motorsports should go back to the desert rats in California where he can remain the dumb jerk that he is and they are.

August 20, 2008  09:58 AM ET

I think Texaco had counted on more than a road win by JPM by now. Penske has something to chew on now.

'Chew on'. Get it? Big Red Gum is their sponsor.
Okay, it's bad, but it's still early.

August 20, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Robby Gordon dominates off road and makes his dough there. NASCAR is more of an expensive hobby for him. He kind of reminds me of a modern day Jimmy Spencer.

August 20, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Well, he should retire too.

August 20, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Not retire, but maybe enlist as a Ringer for the road courses like Fellows and the bunch. He DEFFINITELY can drive the roadies.

Are you suggesting a "salary cap" of sorts STP?? That being the case we would be back to the days of Piggly Wiggly and Churches Fried Chicken sponsoring the rides...it wouldn't be worth big sponsor names anymore.

August 20, 2008  11:49 AM ET

On a different subject

Both of the drivers -- Joey Logano of the No. 18 and Tony Stewart of the No. 20 -- have been penalized with the loss of 150 championship driver points and placed on probation until Dec. 31. Joe Gibbs, owner of both of the cars, has likewise been penalized 150 championship owner points for each of those entries.

Gee I guess that hurts their chance to win nationwide, total bummer.

Would never want to be on probation, that is a death sentence in Nascar

Sort of like being held after class for throwing a spit wad at the geek in the front row.

That is a pretty stiff penalty, but with something as blatant as that I wouldn't have been surprised if they were actually told to sit out 2-3 races.

August 20, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Kind of a useless penalty on Stewart, though - wasn't that supposed to be his last Nationwide race of the season anyway?

August 20, 2008  12:09 PM ET

Good point STP43....Texaco should have money to burn right now though and looking for expenses to reduce the income.

August 20, 2008  12:12 PM ET

Many times in the past, I have said "follow the money" Petty hooked up with Boston Ventures ,Roush hooked up with John Henry, commodities trader. Do you think these people put money into racing because they like racing?
Nascar has become big business and Texaco doesn't need it. The demands being put on sponsors has reached ridiculous limits and it is coming to an end.
it won't be long before we only have a half dozen owners owning all the teams, cars, drivers and everything that goes with it. It has happened to banks, super markets, automobile manufacturers, gas stations and all of our day to day things. Follow the money. It has gotten into Nascar and it will not be good for the sport. Sorry
