Potential Mariners-Mets deal

Word in baseball circles is that ex-Twins pitcher Carlos Silva, placed on the disabled list by the Mariners, has been lost without pal Johan Santana, traded to the Mets. Silva has won just once in his past 21 starts. Don't think the Mariners wouldn't love to unload the right-hander, who has a $48 million, four-year guaranteed contract, on the Mets so he could rejoin Santana.

Awww....the poor baby misses his friend. The Mets would be so stupid to take on this albatross.

August 20, 2008  07:49 AM ET

great idea (NOT)

August 20, 2008  07:54 AM ET

I so hope this happens....

August 20, 2008  08:02 AM ET

Maybe it has nothing to do with Santana......

Maybe the guy is just bent out of shape because he went from a contender to a AA team......

August 20, 2008  08:04 AM ET

Don't the mets have enough stiffs?

August 20, 2008  08:19 AM ET

The Mets don't need him....their starting pitching is solid.
Maybe the Sillies should consider him. They could always use another winer for the fans to boo.......

yeah, cause mutts fans never boo anyone. Umm..what about Tom Glavine last year and what about Santana during his first start at Shea? Right, but we are the only ones who boo.

August 20, 2008  08:45 AM ET

me too. there's nothing like exploiting broads, but this one is on me.
The Original Tony | 08/20/08, 08:41 AM

He wasn't doin that good when he was with Santana.

August 20, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Brought to you by the same people who said the Cards were shopping Lohse.

What's up with the St. Paul Pioneer Press creating rumors on former twins players?

August 20, 2008  09:20 AM ET

I would boo Glavine today! He let up 7 runs in the first inning of the most important game of the year after stinking it up during the entire September collapse. As for Santana, the people who booed were Yankee fans.....They came to Shea to see what their team missed out on.
That said, I'm hard pressed to find fans outside of Philly who would boo the reigning MVP....unless his name was A-Rod.

So, let me get this straight. Say david Wright wins the MVP this year and next yaer plays like garbage and then on top of playing like garbage he insults the entire fan base. You don't think he'll get booed?

August 20, 2008  09:57 AM ET

Three words...he got paid....that's why he's not performing...I regularly follow the Twins and before this guy got paid...he was a solid #2 starting pitcher...

August 20, 2008  10:28 AM ET

David Wright isn't capable of playing like garbage....nor would he insult the NY fan base. He's too smart for that.

August 20, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Total nonsense.

Like we had to live with the Zambrano-Kazmir trade, let the Mariners live with their stupid decisions.

Oh, and for the St. Paul Pioneer Press... the NY Post called; they want their bullsh*t shovel back.

Apparently, that's what Silva wants, to be a "stiff" again with his little buddie.

August 20, 2008  10:38 AM ET

wait, cnnsi.com is quoting Charley Waters of the Pioneer Press???? There is no way the Charley has a credible scoop here. This is just column fodder and more-than-likely has no, credible sourcing. To call this a "morning jolt" is absurd. Charley Waters writes drivel to fill column space.

August 20, 2008  10:44 AM ET

He writes for ALL of the NY Papers too eh?

August 20, 2008  10:44 AM ET

Laughs another one of these stories?????
Seattle was crazy enough to give $48 million, four-year guaranteed contract to carlos? Oh yes thats right so they gat get a ton of players leter to trade him away. This is why you never sign with Seattle.......

August 20, 2008  10:49 AM ET

At least FN didn't even pretend to have a reason WHY the Mets would trade for him. That's an improvement.

So the Philly/Rollins love affair has ended?
