Another USC backfield injury

USC's backfield, already in flux with quarterback Mark Sanchez coming back from a knee injury, sustained another blow Tuesday when running back C.J. Gable suffered hip and ankle injuries. Gable, a redshirt sophomore who started the 2006 and 2007 openers, sustained a sprained left hip and ankle when he was tackled during a scrimmage drill. Gable redshirted in 2007 after having abdominal surgery following the third game. He was on crutches Tuesday when he emerged from the locker room.

Well this USC team seems to be getting worse and worse as the season inches closer

August 20, 2008  08:03 AM ET

Enough of the daily " who has a hang nail " reports. Unless some guy is declared done for the season, then enough already.

August 20, 2008  08:07 AM ET

LSU.. wishful thinking.. even if Gable doesn't see a single snap this year there are still 3 RBs who would start for any team in the country.

August 20, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Agree 50year, this is garbage that has no substance. This stuff happens every year and at every school and usually has no effect on the team. Stop reporting unless you have something major

Not LSU.

August 20, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Didn't something like this happen last year to USC?

August 20, 2008  09:53 AM ET

The famous " Petey tongue in cheek " photo. There are still some Jet fans on Staten Island with a contract out on this guy.

August 20, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Yeah xxx84xxx, I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe Petey needs to quit practicing his skill positions so hard.

August 20, 2008  10:58 AM ET

I thought so, they were like 35 deep at tailback and 34 of them got hurt...

August 20, 2008  11:13 AM ET

It sucks for depth and CJ, but as it stood before the injury Stafon Johnson and Joe McKnight were going to get the bulk of the carries with Allen Bradford mixed in. I think that CJ might consider a move to Safety anyways. Fight On!

August 20, 2008  11:15 AM ET

LSU.. please.. Stafon Johnson would start for every team in the country except maybe Ohio State (Beanie Wells)

August 20, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Im willingly to bet if you play RB at USC you could probably start anywhere you want

August 20, 2008  11:49 AM ET

Just cause you could start at other schools does not make you a good runningback. There are plenty of not so great runningbacks who start.

The fact is that they play at USC, and they are behind Gable and McKnight on the depth chart. That was the risk they chose to take going to a school like USC.

August 20, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Exactly, thats the risk all of them take going to a powerhouse, it becomes a business, because the 4 guys behind are just as good and just as fast!

August 20, 2008  12:30 PM ET

USC will be alright. We have the most depth at running back than any other team in the country.

hopefully he can have a speedy recovery. i would like to see him in action again, he was great last year until his injury.

August 20, 2008  03:40 PM ET

I'll bet the boosters(agents) that bought their services are wanting a refund. Yeah' good luck with that as Reggie showed.

August 20, 2008  03:45 PM ET

I know USC wants to get into the news more often so the voters can see them, but this is getting rediculous. Report when there are major, season ending injuries. I would guess that just aboput every other school is having these kind of problems too. (Except maybe for the jock itch)

August 20, 2008  03:55 PM ET

At this rate I'd rather get weekly summary rather than a daily report. The next thing we'll hear is that Carroll injured his smile.

USC is going down this year
