Sonics fans want free OKC seats

Sonics fans pursuing a class-action suit against Clay Bennett have laid out exactly what they're seeking from the Oklahoma City ownership group: free tickets for the next two seasons of basketball at the Ford Center. In the latest legal volley from the lawyers representing three Sonics season ticket holders, Seattle attorney Frederick Schoepflin outlined a potential remedy for U.S. District Judge Richard Jones. Noting it would be extremely difficult to force the team back to Seattle in order to fulfill its promise to provide tickets for the same guaranteed price at KeyArena through the 2009-10 season, Schoepflin suggested an appropriate solution would be offering nearly 1,400 Sonics fans tickets at Oklahoma City's arena at those same prices for the next two years. Given that the cost of traveling to Oklahoma to watch the games would cost more than the tickets themselves, Schoepflin wrote that the Professional Basketball Club should thus be ordered to provide tickets to the former Sonics season ticket holders at no cost. Seattle fans conceivably could then either resell the tickets, choose not to use them or fly to Oklahoma City to attend games.

Can anyone say Sour Grapes! Come on, let it go. When the Charolette fans lost the Hornets or the Vancouver fans (all 12 of them) lost their teams, you did not see these lawsuits. It is a waste of time and $.

I'm gonna sue Pop for some Baseline Bum seats.

August 20, 2008  08:16 AM ET

Makes sense to me. I hope Oklahoma City loses this one after the way they bolted from Seattle.

August 20, 2008  08:31 AM ET

Sour grapes? Sure, but why not try kicking one up there on an ownership group that kicked one up there on them?

August 20, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Whats 1400 fans, compared to 20,000. OK City already won so mind as well offer the tickets to those 1400 fans. It should not be a big loss for 2 years. And those fans are probably not going to be there unless they sell their tickets on E-bay.

August 20, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Hahaha... give all 1400 of them free tickets to the KeyArena -- The Sonics stayed in Seattle. This is just an asinine lawsuit, the city of Seattle accepted a buyout of their lease terms, so their lease terms no longer apply. Also, the city forced the "Sonics" to remain in Seattle, so having a promise from Clay to attend Sonics games for the next 3 years at the same price you previously paid really doesn't matter -- Clay doesn't own the Sonics anymore, Seattle does.

August 20, 2008  09:04 AM ET

Travel to Oklahoma City? Yeah right! The Sonics fans don't leave their team that much to travel that far.

August 20, 2008  09:20 AM ET

This is so twisted it's scary. Teams have moved before, fans get shafted, that's just how it is. Why not ask for their money back from the folks who sold them the tickets.

August 20, 2008  10:25 AM ET

It sucks to lose your team, but seriously... give it a rest. Quit whining and worry about something important.

August 20, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Free tickets?????

They didn't go to the games when they were in Seattle - Why would they want to travel to OK to see the sonics now??

August 20, 2008  11:03 AM ET

why would they travel all the way from seattle which costs alot of money for bum seats of the same team thats going to fail again?

August 20, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Just pay them off at "cost" then they would be done with them. Seattle fans are such idiots sometimes!

Give them the tickets but forbid them to sell them above face value.

August 20, 2008  12:02 PM ET

like that will ever happen.

thats awesome, Very True.

I am from Seattle and was a diehard fan, but seriously, its time to let go. I don't plan on rooting for any team associated with OKC, nothing personal against the city but rather just the owners. And I sure as heck would not travel 4 blocks to see this team, let alone 400 miles. I miss the sonics too, but let it go people, let it go...put your passion into the Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies. Its time to move on.

August 20, 2008  12:48 PM ET

I get the point of letting it go and moving on....but seriously, Clay Bennett completely deserves any and all headaches and aggravatioin that Seattle can put on him.

August 20, 2008  01:31 PM ET

TenRings, I totally agree and I hope that aggravation comes from many losing seasons with low attendance.

August 20, 2008  03:17 PM ET

Sonic fans...

There is a pretty good team just three hours south on Interstate 5. New fans are welcome.

Why didnt the fans just show up to the games when they WERE IN SEATTLE! The main reason they moved was because fans werent attending games and the team was losing money. If they had attended the games then Clay Bennett couldnt have taken the team from Seattle.
