Bengals coach Marvin Lewis' frustration with some of his injured star players has started to show. With projected starting tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring) an infrequent participant in practice through the first month of work, Lewis said if the season opened now, Chris Perry would be the starting back.

Chris Perry has shown flashes of why he was selected in the first round 3-4yrs ago......He has been playing well. Hopefully he can stay healthy as well.

August 21, 2008  06:19 AM ET

Another reason (one of many) to shorten the pre-season. Players really need to ensure they are in proper physical shape during the off-season. A player can't expect to get in shape AFTER he shows up to training camp. The Packers had last week 16 players injured on their list, just a complete joke.

August 21, 2008  06:28 AM ET

chris perry has a ton of talent and zero durability. even if he were named the starter, he couldn't hold the job longer than 2-4 weeks.

August 21, 2008  07:18 AM ET

Perry can 0lay but will get hurt.. Bengals have allot of issues. The need defense players but the offense seems to always have isues every year. Window is closing.......

August 21, 2008  07:19 AM ET

play...issues

August 21, 2008  07:23 AM ET

I heard that he is sorta like lost a step and the injuries are taking there toll on this short man's body. Just a flash in the pan.

August 21, 2008  07:53 AM ET

For a really bad team, don't the Bengals get loads of coverage?

August 21, 2008  07:59 AM ET

"For a really bad team, don't the Bengals get loads of coverage?"

spoken like a steelers fan.

August 21, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Does Perry really get hurt or is he just unmotivated? If he gets a paycheck (that happens to be like 50 times the national average income) anyways, but doesn't have the motivation to train or play as hard as he needs (or thinks that he get rely on natural talent alone) then faking injury seems logical....just like Chad Johnson....Basically, if you are "injured" you cannot be benched and have your pay withheld like TOs was in his last year in Philly.......

Bengals are the epitome of wasted potential....they have some players that could be really good if they could stay out of jail long enough to make it through the whole season....Carson Palmer, when not injured, is a top 5 QB statistically speaking....Plus, they have TJ H____.....yeah you know who I mean, who is one of the most reliable recievers in the game with some of the best hands....Its TJ that gets all the TDs and first downs, not CJ....CJ stats are inflated by a few long receptions to pad his yards/completion %....What is strangely counter-intuitive is that TJ gets the must have short yardage while CJ gets the long passes, but TJ has a higher yards gained after completion despite catching the ball in coverage in the middle of the field as opposed to having broken away from the defender down the sideline....

August 21, 2008  08:19 AM ET

A lot of people mistakenly think that CJ is the best reciever on the Bengals but thats only because he jumps up and down in the media yelling "look what I can do, look what I can do" like the guy on MadTV while TJ talks with his game on the field.

August 21, 2008  08:25 AM ET

TJ and Chad Johnson compliment each other. You can't really say who's better than the other just by looking at the stats. It's like Boldin and Fitzgerald in Arizona. The only way you'll be able to tell who's better is if one of them gets hurt, or they go to another team.

August 21, 2008  08:37 AM ET

wasted days and wasted backs ...

who sang that?

August 21, 2008  08:39 AM ET

"Carson Palmer, when not injured"

How many games has Carson not started since he was named the starter? I'm recalling zero at the moment. He's been hurt once during a game. Career total for missed playing time is the remainder of that single playoff game.

August 21, 2008  08:55 AM ET

every single one of you are chumps.

DEVO - he wasnt hurt in a preseason game. its a good thing the preseason is this long so that he has time heal.

pw - if you think you are a bengals fan, you are not. i see your posts all the time and you have no clue what you are talking about. i bet you are one of those bandwagoners that only goes to the game when the bengals are good.

Loki - Perry was put on PUP last year after he tried all off season to return. Perry has been a guy that has wanted to play/start his whole life. When he was a Frosh at Michigan they almost had to red shirt him b/c he was so pissed that he wasn't a starter. The guy has a ton of raw talent. I understand that he gets hurt, but it can happen to any player. Also, the last injury he suffered 2 years ago, the way he was hit, anyone would have went down for the season.....

August 21, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Dratcliff - that is the ugliest picture I've ever seen. As a Bengals fan myself (thru good and bad, mind you), I've seen only informational posts from PW. In his defense, he knows what he's takling about (or she, to be PC).

I see you're also a Bengals fan yourself.. why bash? Unless this is an east-side, west-side rivalry, we need all the love we can get in Cincy. WHO DEY!

Dratcliff"

dude, i went almost every game during the homer rice "era". I've been through the good times and the bad. i still think the rattler not being in the HOF is one of the great misdeeds the hall of fame has committed against the NFL. i'm not a mike brown fan, this i have never hid, i tolerate him at best.

as for what i know or don't know. i stick to stats and reported facts. anytime you have something you want to toss your "opinion" against, we'll see who flushes out.

and if you are beefing b/c i said perry can't stay healthy. name the last stretch of games he played between injuries and how long it was. I honestly can't recall him going more than 6 games in his career. it possibly might be as low as 4 games. like i said, he's got a ton of talent, but so far, has proven to have durability issues. feel free to list all the games palmer has missed, i stick by the partial game answer i gave. as for the other cat, he is a steelers fan, look it up. so far you are 0 - 3.
