Bogat's injury worries Bucks

Andrew Bogut, limping heavily toward Australia's locker room, said he feared the worst. "I think it's a ligament," Bogut said. Halfway around the world, the Milwaukee Bucks were holding their collective breath. Bogut was to undergo an MRI today to determine the severity of an ankle injury he suffered during Australia's 116-85 loss to the United States in the men's basketball quarterfinals at the Olympic Games on Wednesday night.

therewas no reason for him to play against team usathe had no chance to win

Not the right solution, Heat Fan. Bogut was on the Aussie team to play. If the opponent is strong, all the _more_ reason for him to play. Only if the _other_ team had no chance to win would it make sense for Bogut to sit, since they wouldn't need him to get the victory.

With regard to the injury - Ouch !
However, the good news is that it's just an ankle injury. Players usually recover from ankle injuries in a reasonable time. Even if it's serious, ankle surgeries are relatively mild - compared to, say, knee surgeries.

Can you "Oh No" for the Bucks? Bogut was already injured but yet he still forced it. The injury was the reason why he missed a lot of scrimmage and now it seems like he aggaravated it more. Just hope Ginobili won't do the same. Ginobili won't sit out the next one because it's against USA., even if he was hurt.

Ankle injuries are also bad defending on the severity. If the muscle or tendon is torn then it will take a while. The muscle has to strengthen in time or else it stays weak and will have a recurring injuries.

What can you say? they'r the bucks!!! You've come to expect a poor season, injuries or otherwise;

August 21, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Someone get SI hooked on phonics. They misspelled his name in the headlines. HAHA.

August 21, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Another reason the NBA shouldn't allow its players to play outside of their teams schedules... I hope the Bucks had some kind of clause that says if you get hurt playing for another team you forfeit your contract...

I wouldn't want to pay a guy that hurt himself playing for another team... let alone another country

I loved it how the Aussies took it straight in the wazzoo. You talk trash to us, foul hard our superstars, and try every dirty deed in the book to get a reaction from our SUPERIOR talent and you will be embarrassed and schooled in front of billions of people.

As for Bogut's injury, it is unfortunate. I think he should be deducted the salary for the games he might miss. That sounds like a fair solution to me.

If he were an American baller would we feel the same way?

This is just an unfortunate reality that confronts the NBA now that there are so many international athletes on NBA rosters.

I don't care that he was an American baller... he's an NBA player first... and Olympic star second.

Any player that wants to play for a team outside his NBA team should waive his right to his NBA contract and the Olympic team should be required to reimburse the NBA team for any games lost when the player gets injured. If I'm his NBA team I wouldn't allow a player to take part in extra-curricular games.

August 21, 2008  09:57 AM ET

Did anyone see how Team USA absolutely abused Chris Kaman in the last prelim game? hahaha

August 21, 2008  10:56 AM ET

The NBA wants showcase their players in the olympics. Just look how much the game has grown internationally since the dream team to now with the china v usa game that had a billion viewers. the NBA will not turn its back that market and the potential revenue that means for them. I doubt the league will allow a team to block a player from playing for their country.

If you do this then America goes back to playing college players only and getting a spanking from other countries in the Olympics.

I don't think that's what we want.

This is a great way to go if you don't want international stars to come to the NBA.

Think Manu, Dirk, Yao, Scola, Nocioni, Parker and more would play in the NBA if it meant they couldn't represent their countries?

The idea of voiding the contracts or having the national teams pay if they get injured are aslo idiotic.

I don't think they should have the right to block them... they just shouldn't have to pay a guy who gets hurt playing for another team and should be able to suspend payment for as long as he's out. It's him taking the chance of getting hurt and ruining his career... the NBA shouldn't have to honor his contract.

Have the guy sign a waiver releasing the team from his contract if he gets hurt and he can go play anywhere

August 21, 2008  11:27 AM ET

I see the "spammers" are out in full force. Looks like Bogut got "Bogart"'d right out of Milwaukee. What an idiot, but kudos for wanting to play for your country. Unlike someone who is now playing for the Russian womens basketball team for the money. Just goes to show where her loyalties are.

August 21, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Who cares, he is a prik

August 21, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Now you know how Cuban feels. You are all fighting for what he initally believed.

Based on your response you know an idiotic answer when you see one.

But stupid as you are I'll explain again...

I'm not saying that these guys should not be allowed to represent their countries... but I see no reason why an NBA team's chances of success should be ruined when a star they are paying good money to gets injured in a game not related to the NBA.

From your point of view the NBA should assume all risk and the player and his "country" get off free when he gets hurt and can't honor his contract.

Just sign a waiver and they can go play anywhere they want. Come back at the start of the season and all is well... get hurt and you take responsibility for it.

And it's beyond idiotic to think that Europeans would not come to the NBA if they had the chance just because they may not be able to play in the Olympics for their country... every 4 years!!!

She's an American WNBA (hint) player if you haven't figured it out.
