Will FedEx fizzle without Tiger?

When Tiger Woods said last week that he wasn't going to be physically able to swing a club until 2009, warning bells started ringing in tournament offices from coast to coast, not to mention the PGA Tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. What if Woods can't play until March, or April? What if the FedEx Cup and its ratings fizzle without him? That's way too much to start worrying about, said Ty Votaw, executive vice president for communications and international affairs for the PGA Tour.

Yes. It's nice to see other guys playing well, but I mean, com'mon, it would be even more exciting to see them playing well WITH Tiger. He's always the man to beat, he's amazing when he wins, and it's equally amazing to see someone best in a round of golf.

best him, rather, in a round. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

August 21, 2008  06:39 AM ET

It has already started..where the hell have you been the last few weeks?

August 21, 2008  07:28 AM ET

Tiger will never regain his form and although it is sad, in a way, he can always begin to speak up about cival rights.

The FedEx Cup's rating WILL NOT suffer one bit because Tiger is not playing.

After all Jonis and Pantysize intend to watch every minute of every round of every FedEx Cup event. Right guys?

I'm sure tournament directors, sponsors and advertisers will be absolutely thrilled to know the Co-Chairs of the "We Hate Tiger Club" and their two friends will support the FedEx Cup.

Dave you might want to chill a little bit.

The enmity that you accuse others of having looks to be right inside you instead.

I don't intend to watch the Fed Ex Cup. It has no meaning.

As far as hating Woods, I don't. I'd love to talk with the guy one on one for a half hour. What I do have disgust for is the media for beating us up by focusing exclusively on him and with the corporate heads who keep giving exemptions to people like Daly and Wie.

Link youself to a hate club pal.

fedex cup doesn't make any sense anyways... why don't you get 1 point for winning... not 10,000 points..

August 21, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Why dont they just cancel the season until Tiger comes back. Would that make every Tiger Fannatic happy

August 21, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Yes, it will.

First, the FedEx cup will be fine without him.

Second, Tiger doesn't have to "regain his form" to be a dominant force. He can play on one leg (and a busted knee) and bet just about anyone out there, and,

Third, he Camblanasian, the only one of his kind. He's not going to be speaking up about any "civil rights" issues any time soon.

Without Tiger, golf suffers. Period. Since every tournament during his recovery has faltered in the ratings department, it stands to reason the FedEx will as well.

I just wanna know if Tiger, Jeter and Nadal really get the most comfortable shave with that Gillette Fusion.

August 21, 2008  12:00 PM ET

Good idea Buckguy... Golf is hereby cancelled until Tiger returns

August 21, 2008  12:16 PM ET

It's so nice not hearing about tiger woods all the time.

August 21, 2008  12:43 PM ET

THE TIGER HATERS!!! WHO WOULD YOU RATHER HEAR/READ ABOUT???

THE CHOKE CHOKE MEISTER PHIL MICKELSON?? THE WAAAYYYYYY #2 IN THE WORLD, THE CHOKE CHOKE MEISTER PHIL MICKELSON REFUSES TO WIN!! IS IT THE TIGER'S FAULT?

August 21, 2008  02:00 PM ET

Golf has always needed a huge draw card and at the moment its Tiger, although i would pay to see Phil throw up on himself as he does so often, but ratings drop, crowds get smaller and commentators cant find much to talk about when Tiger isnt playing. Tiger shooting 76 is more exciting than Joe Bloggs from Nowhere USA shooting a 60!

I disagree, I'd love to see Joe Bloggs shoot a 60 against Tiger's 76. Now that would be great golf.

The FEDEX will be exciting. It is the only chance these guys have to make the 10 million (with youknowwho gone). If that doesn't motivate the CHOKEMEISTER than I don't know what will.
