Another Davis-Kiffin conflict?
Raiders managing general partner Al Davis watched practice from the sideline for a while Wednesday. Coach Lane Kiffin has suggested in recent days that some things he would like to do regarding personnel moves are beyond his control, an allusion to Davis' control.

One of the worst Coaching gigs in sports is being stuck under Al Davis's watchful eye sockets. It has to be a real drag, I feel sorry for you Raider's fans sometimes.

Al Davis has always had a great eye for talent, and I see nothing wrong with an owner wanting to do what they think is neccesary for a team to win. Jerry Jones does the same thing. As far as the other coaches having the same problem, the cure is in a winnning season. If Kiffin is able to come out with a winning season this year and have promise for being a force to reckon with in the AFC the following year Davis would loosen the reins on the coach to finish what he has started. The raiders should try to make a play for Boldin, trade one of their 3 great running backs and a draft pick to get him. They are lacking a great reciever and won't be able to get the ball in the hands of all three of these running backs as much as they will need to really shine.

Davis has had a great eye for talent? Name a draft pick in the last half decade that hasn't been a disappointment if not a bust. No. Davis might know something about football, but if he can't avoid micromanaging his coaches then the Raiders HC job will always be for "also rans" and retreads.

One difference between Jones and Davis... Davis has completely lost his mind.
Al Davis has turned the Raiders into a laughingstock, drafting horribly, meddling with personnel and firing and hiring coaches like they insulted his family. Davis is an idiot who neither knows what it takes to get back to respectability, or respects those around him. The way to win in the NFL is to build your club through the draft. The Raiders are still convinced that signing NFL castoffs and has-beens is the way, and they will remain brutal until their philosophy changes, or Davis gets lost-for good.

"Al Davis has always had a great eye for talent, and I see nothing wrong with an owner wanting to do what they think is neccesary for a team to win."
Making a DT who's been a DE, the highest paid player at his position is uncalled for. Signing Javon Walker to that contract is uncalled for. When was the last time Al Davis made a move and you said "Wow, good pickup by the Raiders." Before you say McFadden, that wasn't really a hard decision.

And people hate Dan Snyder? Coaches should have defined powers. Owners should be in their boxes unless they want the job in its entirety.

I concur Loki ... if jones is so smart ... why did the Cowboys go through 10 different QBs before getting Romo ... non draft ... and let's not forget all those empty years of no promise what so ever ...

How many teams lose HOF QBs and are able to bounce right back? The 49ers(Steve Young), Broncos(John Elway), Dolphins(Dan Marino) all have gone thru the same thing the Cowboys did. Yea it took the Cowboys awhile to look like a good team. But like I said, it's not that easy to lose a HOF QB and act like nothing happened.

Hmm would have to list Snyder, Davis, Brown, and Ford as the worst owners in the NFL. It's easy to see why any of those teams fans hate their owners.

I heard about this an hour ago. But in this day and age, you really have to confirm something like this before you post it where people can read and blog about it.

I think Snyder has become less meddling since the hiring of Joe Gibbs. His approach of signing big name free agents has subsided, and he is more of an interested fan now than actually putting his footprint on the roster (Jeff George, Deion Sanders, Steve Spurrier, etc.). I think with the last three years yielding two playoff appearances is the proof that he's letting the football people do their jobs.

He owns the team so the gives him the ability to do whatever he wants to do with the team but as a Raiders fan i wish he would just die or turn over the reigns to somebody else already. Give Kiffan a chance to win you old jackass!!

You forgot about the Bidwells of the Cardinals. But otherwise you're spot on with most of the owners. Though at least Snyder has made a few decent choices and moves.
