About those Hemsky trade rumors

The message boards say the Canadiens might be dangling forward Chris Higgins, defenseman P.K. Subban, a member of Canada's world junior team last year, and another roster player for Ales Hemsky. And, defenseman Denis Grebeshkov's name has been talked about going to Montreal, too. That's like fantasizing that you might get a date with Halle Berry. Not a chance.

I guess happiness is being satisfied with what you've got. I have not seen this guy much so I don't know but the rap is that he makes 87 of the Pens look like Orr on steroids.

August 21, 2008  10:00 AM ET

Just say no.

I saw Hemsky live last year. He can dipsey doodle with anybody.

But he simply does not shoot the puck often enough.

I wouldn't trade him.

August 21, 2008  10:03 AM ET

They better be asking a lot for Hemsky. That kid can play. He's easily the best player on that team. I wouldn't trade him.

August 21, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Ok..Ok...As a Habs fan I'll do my part and kick in $5 to help get Hemsky on the east coast.

Let's see...Hemsky can stick handle and skate, but never shoots. Ovechkin can shoot, and never passes. Hmm..if they ever go on the same team.....

Ovechkin can shoot, and never passes.
Buckeyes Hockey

False. Heresy. Blasphemy. Some guy a few weeks ago said he doesn't hit.
Which left field are these statements coming out of?

"That's like fantasizing that you might get a date with Halle Berry."

I would say getting a date with Halle Berry would be much, much easier than that trade happening!

.... Bad supporting cast. Hemsky is a very goodplayer who hasn't had much talent around him until now.

My mistake. Just pulled up his career stats, and didn't realise he was about even w/goals and assists. Still..would love to see Ovechkin and Hemsky together for a couple of shifts.

August 21, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Supporting cast or not, 70 goals in 350 games does not warrant a player with more goals (72 ) in much less games (225) PLUS 2 other players. I like what I've seen of Hemsky, which is to say not a lot in the East, and I think he's a good player, but I gotta go with the numbers on this one.

August 21, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Blah. Why do I have a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach? When they say "not a chance", it usually means it's a done deal.

August 21, 2008  12:58 PM ET

Having watched Hemsky alot, it is safe to say that 90% of the OIler offense flows from #83's stick. Numbers aside, Hemsky is far more valuable than any other player on the Oilers, which makes him difficult to trade and increases his value from an Oiler standpoint. Will he be that valuable in Habland, probably not with all those offensive weapons, but his numbers would be higher playing with Kovolev. Consider the fact that the best player Hemsky has played with was Ryan Smyth...a guy who couldn't REACH the net with a slap shot from the blueline. Bottom line- Hemmer is our best player, excites the crowd, scores timely goals, and runs our powerplay...Oil fans would want something huge in return. Another factor is that he is young and is signed longterm for a bargin.

Oilers - NHI

I don't know, maybe listening to the collection of Reagan/Thatcher speeches?

PokeyReddick

Agreed. Last year he finally started to shoot more and ended up with 20 goals first time ever. 19 once before? Easily the most talented Oiler.

August 21, 2008  02:04 PM ET

It can't be That hard to get a date with Halle Barry, can it?

August 21, 2008  02:46 PM ET

I love Hemsky's hands... I am doubtful the Oil will trade him. The Oilers need offense and experience, and Hemsky has both. The Habs and lots of other teams probably have made overtures about him, but Lowe would be silly to unload him, unless someone offered him the moon.

Now back to the Sundin speculation....

August 21, 2008  03:32 PM ET

Watching Hemsky most of the year and seeing how he has developed since he has been an Oiler I will have to say I truely doubt that they are considering trading him. He's a fan favorite, they have him locked up for at least 5 more years at a reasonable salary and he's still a kid that is only going to get better. And he is one of their top true talents on the team. And Insane Hussain, not sure if you're knocking his toughness or not but if you are you're wrong. Unlike 87, he takes the hit (and he gets hit a lot) and gets up and back into the play without crying to the ref. Regher from the Flames loves to cheep shot him every time they play.
They just locked up Grebeshkov as well and he is following the same path as Hemsky in his early development.

August 21, 2008  03:35 PM ET

Very hard to trade..

August 21, 2008  04:10 PM ET

Hockey players in general may be the only athletes as hard to predict as pitchers in baseball. Yeah, the Gretzkys and Lemieuxs of the world are easy enough, but the NHL road is littered with Petr Klimas and Eric Lindros' of the world also
