The Mets have refused to put a timetable on the return of Billy Wagner from the disabled list, but apparently the initial estimate the pitcher received is three weeks from now. The lefthander's agent, Bean Stringfellow, Wednesday said that after a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, the pitcher was "surprised it will take three weeks."

I hope he never returns and I hope his arm falls off.

Ha! Leprosy might get you a few weeks on the DL... Don't want the pitcher throwing a finger at you along with the ball!

Along with his arm, maybe his big mouth will fall off also. atleast he can't blow anymore saves for the next few weeks.

August 21, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Well he might just come back with enough time to help the Mets implode again aqnd let the Phillies walk in again.

They have no bullpen but the have a nice soft schedule to keep them in the running. It will be close to the end.

And the Phils have no consistent starting pitching outside of the old man Moyer which should allow them to continue to fade when they play anyone with a decent team.

Bean Stringfellow? I didn't know you could get an agent from a Dr Seuss book.

Same goes for your team. You can't play, the Nats,Pirates and Braves all the time can you?

You might want to reconsider that statement. The reason the Mets struggled is because they never put the hammer down on weak teams like they're doing now. They got swept by Atlanta, Houston, and San Diego earlier in the year. We've played extremely well against good teams. Add those 2 together and let me know when the feeling of misery starts to set in for you.

You are supposed to beat the weaker teams, when a team does it it is still a good thing. .500 against the top teams and bveating up on the weak one shopuld mean you are in the hunt in September.

As a Mets fan, I'm actually glad Wagner will be out a bit longer. This will test the muster of the entire team.

Obviously, the bullpen will have to step up, although the addition of Ayala and now Al Reyes should help. But now the starters will have to gut it out longer (e.g., Pelfrey's CG last night), and the offense is pressured to score often and late to give the bullpen a bigger lead to work with.

If they can pull this off, when Wagner does come back (presumably at 100%), this team will be primed for October ball.

It will test their mettle quite a bit, but the Mets have enough in the tank. Losing Wagner is like having a boil lanced off your arse, it hurts initially but then you're happy to see it gone. He's a cancer who now throws at unacceptable speeds for a "fastballer".

Agreed. This bunch of bozo's that I call my team floundered against the bad ones but played very well against the good ones. They're FINALLY playing great against the bad ones. If they had any bullpen, I'd feel better.

August 21, 2008  11:33 AM ET

At this point it goes without saying that the Mets bullpen needs help. How is Ayakka, I think, working out. I am serious, I do not usually watch whole Met games, i fly by and check out the scores and such.

Didnt pitch last night so I dont know. He won't be worse than what we already have so even if he's average, its an improvement.
