Lesnar eyeing November return

Lacking a main event for a tentatively planned UFC 91 event at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., it appears that the UFC could be turning to heavyweight sensation Brock Lesnar for some much-needed star power. According to a report in Thursday's edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Lesnar was informed by the UFC earlier this week that they would like to add him to their November show. Possible opponents for Lesnar include Cheick Kongo. This fight has been rumored to be the next for both fighters following their wins at UFC 87 on August 9th.

And....still waiting for the "s" in opponents to surface a name. I'm pretty sure that's journalism 101, plural means more than one.

That being said, Lesnar is going to destroy Kongo.

There is no grammatical error. One of the possible opponents is Cheick Kongo. Now, if Kongo isn't a possible opponent, you're onto something with that sweet journalism 101 comment. Or if the journalist had said something like "all the possible opponents are Cheick Kongo", then you can feel free to question his use of the english language. Until then, don't ridicule non-errors on teh internetz. It makes you look silly

UFC must be the most uncreative company ever to do business on this list. So someday Brock is suppose to sit around with his drinking buddies and say, do you remember UFC87, I beat some Ace at that one, believe you me... I mean seriously, call it anything, no matter how stupid, the Filth of July, March Wars, Christmas left me with a cane, Fairy Bashing February, come up with something...

No, he is actually correct. What they should have said is "One possible opponent would be Kongo. " If you are going to say opponents, then list more than 1 person. Also, as far as Kongo being a possible opponent what Robert was saying is the is the ONLY opponent anyone is talking about, so the guy should have written it in that way unless he had another name. I don't mean to speak for Robert, but I'm sure that is what he was saying.

He is still riding on his name from WWE and also failing to make the Vikings squad. He is going to get destroyed once he meets a real opponent.

Guys for the opponets they are putting up against lesnar he is being groomed for success. Facing Mir is incredible for someone in their 2nd MMA fight ever. Yes the Heavyweight Division is weak but he did take a former champion and was doing what he wanted. He made a mistake and lost. If they faced again I assure you Lesnar wins. Congo will not be able to do anything to Lesnar because he is not a submission fighter. He has good size but he will just get put to the mat and get pounded. If Lesnar could ever program into himself once he has a guy on his stomach go for the rear naked choke and just lay on top of him. He is too much in wanting to beat his opponet into a bloody mess. But these guys are tough and with the gloves the punches aren't as hard as they would be bare knuckle (See Kimbo and why he couldn't knock out his last opponet). And Preacher of Hate riding his fame from the WWE is helping the UFC because he is already known and people like watching what they know. That is why other pro sports show the same teams on tv all the time.

PREACHER OF HATE | 08/22/08, 03:03 PM

Put him in the ring with Kimbo Slice. No matter the outcome, we'll have one less overrated schmuck taking away from MMA's bid to be respected as a serious and true sport.

So UFC books squash matches too? Because that's how Brock was built up in WWE.

August 22, 2008  05:20 PM ET

Lesnar will get killed when he meets a real fighter

August 22, 2008  06:14 PM ET

2 things:

First, thanks Jason70, that's EXACTLY what I was saying. Titansftw obviously has no idea of what he was talking about.

Second, Lesnar is fighting QUALITY opponents. He's not being fed wash-ups like Kimbo. If he and Kimbo fought right now, Kimbo would lose in 30sec.

August 22, 2008  06:16 PM ET

Mr. Wiz, you have no idea of what you are talking about either. Herring could beat most heavyweights out there. He almost beat the UFC champ. He lost in a unanimous decision, but he could've stopped Nog, but he hesitated, and concequencially lost.

August 22, 2008  06:19 PM ET

you still there RobertMenn

August 22, 2008  11:19 PM ET

Preacher of Hate, you seriously need to ****. He made the team and was cut for not showing up for practices, 2nd he has faced quality fighters. And making a NFL team while never even playing college football is an amazing feat in it self. The guy is a freak of an athlete and i hope he improves, just to prove idiots like you wrong.

August 23, 2008  12:37 AM ET

i said it before the herring fight and ill say it again: brock will destroy anyone he fights and will be the heavyweight champion.

First, Mir has already said he wouldn't get back in the ring with Lesnar. He admitted that Lesnar was manhandling him and if not for the step over mistake, would have smashed Mir's face in. Second.Kongo has a wicked kick like Cro Cop used to and that shin bone "could" put Lesnar down with well placed shot....Third, its not the bare knuckles that cause a KO. Its the impact of the brain against the inside of the skull which happens regardless of gloves...point of fact:Tyson has knocked many people out while wearing gloves....bare knuckles are a cut threat just like elbows...

once he gets some experience, this WILL happen....There is no one in MMA that can compete with Lesnar's combination of size, strength and athleticism....his ONLY weakness is a lack of experience....
