Giants may need new kicker

Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes, who suffered a left knee injury while making a routine kick during training camp and has been sidelined for almost two weeks, will undergo exploratory surgery Friday morning that will determine how much time he's expected to miss, according to three people with direct knowledge of Tynes' injury and scheduled procedure. All three people, who requested anonymity because injury information is supposed to come from coach Tom Coughlin, said it's possibile the surgery will reveal an injury could land Tynes on the team's injured-reserve list. Coughlin declined to give specifics on Tynes Thursday after practice, most likely because he's waiting for the information from the surgery to give him a firm timetable for Tynes' recovery.

They will probably sign Jay Feely, who was cut by Miami last week.

would seem like the best quick fix. tynes should probably be a little nervous if they bring in feely. feely might stick.

I hope this isn't the best the giants can do for an excuse for why they will suck this year and miss the playoffs....

Tynes was a hero last year (on the third try). This does kind of sucks - I am not making excuses, but its a out. You know, just like when Tom Brady misses a couple of games and has a subpar season.

Huston is not the answer. How can Feeley be a personality problem? He is a kicker. duct tape his mouth shut and send him out there. Problem solved. His kickoffs are not very good, but he is the best of the choices out there..
Before Tynes nailed that FG in Green Bay, he missed two shorter FGs that should have put that game away earlier...I am glad he hit that one, but for most of the year he scared the he** out of me every time he went out there.

Yeah, therefore hero (on the third try). Farve haters will forget how close that game was and could have gone the other way.

don't know if Tynes became a hero, more like he avoided being the goat. nobody can forget the look on Tom Coughlin's face during those misses. another kicker in a giants uniform could stick around if he makes zero mistakes on the field and keeps his mouth shut off the field.

50yearfan:

Agreed. Any time he went out there to kick he put knots in my stomach. Other than making the FG in GB, I was never impressed with him as our kicker. I would like to have Feely back, and actually think he's an improvement over Tynes at the position.

jabbawockeez..You did better than I did then. I just swore and got up and walked around. I would take Matt Bahr right now over him. Luckily for him, he never had games on the line during the season. Huston is worse though.

An injury during a routine kick? Bring back the Kevin Butler's of the world. We need some kickers with some stones who head butt their o-line after a PAT.
