Cowboys racing Eagles to Boldin?

My Cardinals source just informed me that Anquan Boldin isn't a bad guy in the least. He's a great guy who just wants to get paid. And his salary is dwarfed by Larry Fitzgerald's. I think the Eagles' need for Boldin should make Cowboys owner Jerry Jones that much more interested. Boldin has three years left on his deal in which he will make about $12 million more dollars. Fitzgerald signed a four-year $40 million contract ($30 million guaranteed) in the off-season.

Why even have contracts? Why not just let the cry babies play the season, and pay them by what they actually did on the field? 3 years left on his contract? "..a guy who just wants to get paid"... so, am I to believe that the Cardinals have NEVER paid this guy one cent since he's been on the team? Give the jerk a pacifier as payment, and make him wear it around his neck during practice!

Devo, read up on what happened. The organization promised him a re-worked deal this off-season and didn't deliver. As a pro athlete, if your organization is trying to sell you short while paying the guy that lines up from you 3x as much, you have two things to do - play real hard the last year of your contract to increase your value in free agency, or ask for a trade since the organization obviously doesn't want you that badly. Since he's got 3 years left, why play for a team for chump change and run the risk of getting injured, hurting your value for free agency? Get out now and play somewhere where the organization wants you.

People get all emotional about it - it's a business. Sports is a business.

ESPECIALLY when you've been consistently posting similar if not better numbers than that guy making $7-$8 million more than you per season.

August 22, 2008  07:53 AM ET

is there enough room in Dallas for TO and Boldin?

August 22, 2008  07:55 AM ET

I love how this "article" is actually just two paragraphs from Tim Calishaw saying the Cowboys SHOULD go after Boldin. No one is actually saying the Cowboys have actually even considered it. Even the headline of the actual article makes that clear.

Yet, here it says "Cowboys racing Eagles to Boldin?" as if the Cowboys are already in negotiations with the Cards. But there is the question mark at the end so that makes it ok.

August 22, 2008  07:57 AM ET

The eagles have more draft picks, better trade bait, and more cap room. If Boldin is going anywhere via trade, it's the eagles

August 22, 2008  08:00 AM ET

Boldin is not going anywhere - you heard it from me first. Not this season at least. He's going to play, and the Cardinals will probably re-work his deal somewhere in the range of 4-years, $35M.

August 22, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Loki, you are probably a Dallas fan, huh? The Eagles DO have some players that interest the Cards but they are players that our FO does not want to trade. They DO have 2 first round draft picks however....those could ABSOLUTELY be bargaining chips. I'm not going to get my hopes up though because I'm convinced that Lurie & Banner are determined to destroy any and all aspects of the highly competitive, yearly contender we once had. Eagles fans, as much as we HATE Dallas...admit it, we are jealous that they have an owner who constantly tries to do whatever it takes to be competitive. Our cheap *ss management on the other hand? Man I hate our FO. :(

August 22, 2008  08:10 AM ET

This story is getting old. Eagles need a receiver and they will pick one up one way or the other. Boldin is a possibility but as of right now an unlikely one.

August 22, 2008  08:11 AM ET

Loki is "MOST DEFINITELY NOT" a Cowboys. Just wanted to make that clear.

After 12 years of not even a playoff win of course Jerry's desparate enough to do whatever he can. We'll see though, as has been proven in the past over and over again names don't win championships.
