Like a good quarterback and an educator's son, Morgan Newton did his homework when it came to making a college decision. The Carmel High School standout knows what kind of impact Kentucky quarterbacks coach Randy Sanders has on his pupils. Sanders was one of the factors in Newton's announcement Thursday that he plans to sign with Kentucky. The earliest current seniors can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 4, 2009. The 6-4, 215-pound Newton was familiar with the connection that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had with Sanders when both were at the University of Tennessee.

Story should say " all this great talent is tired of waiting 3 years, ready to start now"

Good pickup. The question is will he stick with the committment?

August 22, 2008  10:34 AM ET

Good pickup for Big Daddy and the UK program

Sticking to your commitment for high school guys these days is like sticking to one stripper at the club, it just ain't gonna happen....

Interesting to see UK get someone from Indiana. Strong recruiting in Indiana, Ohio and surrounding states could be Kentucky's ticket back. Makes sense. Good for UK - nice people there.

August 22, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Word. It's hard to stick to one stripper. Especially right after I just got paid.

Look out for guys with Sheep in the back of their trucks... they are considered Pimps in Kentucky

Congrats to UK... This is a program I would love to see rise in the SEC EAST. They had an amazing '07 and need to rebuild a little but I think they have a good furture ahead. With the two Miss teams rising in the WEST, UK turning it around is great for the SEC. We just need Vandy to see the light. Well they have had some moments over the past few years.

When Jared Lorenzen heard the news that his former school was getting some top talent, he celebrated by eating a Buick.

5-Star prospect going to UK?
Good snag.

August 22, 2008  05:01 PM ET

Isn't Kentucky a basketball school?

August 22, 2008  07:33 PM ET

He verbally committed, will he stick with it? Not sure, hopefully he will though, he'd jumpstart that team's recruiting I think. Isn't he one of the best High School QB's in the nation?

August 22, 2008  08:01 PM ET

I like UK Basketball but there Football program aint worth a damn... The last person I heard of from there to make it pro was Tim Couch and we all seen how great he was in the big leagues..

August 22, 2008  11:02 PM ET

Carmel and him will be starting off 0-1.
