Marlins' Ramirez unsure of return

Hanley Ramirez tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep Wednesday night because he was worried. The reason? ''I knew right away I couldn't play [Thursday],'' Ramirez said Thursday, one day after injuring his right thumb while stealing second base. ``It hurts -- a lot.'' The shortstop wasn't in the starting lineup and said he wasn't sure when he would be able to play next. X-rays were negative, and the Marlins are calling it a bruise. Ramirez said he was injured when Giants catcher Bengie Molina's throw hit him in the hand as he slid headfirst into second base. Ramirez said the injured hand makes it difficult to hit and throw. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the All-Star could be used as a pinch-runner. That doesn't leave Gonzalez many options off the bench because the Marlins are carrying three catchers. One of those, Paul Lo Duca, has a swollen finger on his left hand. Ivan Ochoa swung at Joe Nelson's pitchout Wednesday, striking the back of Lo Duca's mitt.

Where are all 4 Marlins fans that were so talkative earlier in the year?

August 22, 2008  09:22 AM ET

they were more then for fans u moron there still in the race. We got the best pitching staff of both teams right now 5 starters.

August 22, 2008  09:33 AM ET

I think they are down to 2...one of the four went back to Wisc for the summer and changed to a Brewers fan..the other one, well let's just say he's no longer with us...

That first sentence sounds like you were being raped by a waterbuffalo....

You might want to take a look at the Mets starters before you embarrass yourself again. Anyway, where's the other Fish fan or is he getting his empty seat costume on for the game?

Hey everyone...lets go watch a baseball game in the 95 degree heat with 90% humidity...that sounds like a hoot!!!

August 22, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Hvyhtrr, that's the main reason Grandma Nussbaum retired to that area.

And yet you're the only one who shows up. go figure.

August 22, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Not really man.

August 22, 2008  10:56 AM ET

No offense, Legacy, but I just watched the Cardinal series when they were in Miami recently, and it looked like there were about 5,000 people there every night.

August 22, 2008  11:03 AM ET

5,000 people is nothing...that is horrible actually. The average attendance of a major league game is over 30K people.

5,000 might as well be 3 people...

Thats cause its a Football stadium dumbass its a 55,000 seat stadium, Its not a baseball stadium.

August 22, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Each game was between 13,000 and 15,000 so you're both right. Small crowd but in a football stadium it looked even worse.

Agreed. He plays shortstop like they've laid 48 landmines between 2nd and 3rd base.

August 22, 2008  12:52 PM ET

He will get traded. He is a star...if they do not win next year and don't feel like they will win soon...they will get rid of him for a group of top prospects. That is what they do with their stars.
