Devils making room for big name?

Perhaps clearing cap space to land a bigger name, the Devils have waived defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski. Vishnevski is believed to be planning to play in Russia this coming season, although a claim by another NHL team could alter that. The Devils signed Vishnevski to a three-year contract last summer worth $5.4 million, with two $2 million seasons remaining. His salary cap liability is $1.8 million for each of the remaining two years, which would increase the Devils' cap space to about $3.5 million. Besides oft-rumored Jay Bouwmeester in Florida, a major attraction at $4.9 million in his walk year, Ducks defenseman Mathieu Schneider with one year left at $5.7 million could be attractive to Lou Lamoriello.

Schneider makes sense; they need a puck mover. But if JB becomes available I know who I'd get.

The Devils would have to give up alot for Bouwmeester, but the Panthers have cap space too, don't rule out them re-signing him.

agreed its not a matter of if only when bouwmeester is moved.

There are at least 5 teams that immediately come to mind that could make a move for Boowmeester mid-season. Edmonton, Vancouver, Boston, Dallas, Ottawa.

Call me crazy, but I think he's staying in Florida. The Panthers aren't allowed to go over their self-imposed salary cap of 50 million EXCEPT if it's a long term deal for Bouwmeester. I think he'll stay.

" I'm not available" !!!

I agree....Bouwmeester gets moved on or before the TD. Just depends on who's hurting for that talent at the time. My bet is maybe Phoenix or Colorado. They're going to have to give up a lot to get him though.

Nobody can accuse Lou of being stupid! He, like everyone else, knows Schneider is done! He ain't worth $5.7 million!

This isn't Lou's style. He likes to stay within his farm system. Yes, he may go out and get a guy here or there, but they aren't the big impact players we're used to, they're players who play role positions. In my opinion, a big name like J.B. will not be sought after by Lou... why would he change now?

Im surprised no one has conneced rosival being traded to the devils, because that would clear the cap space up for the rangers to get sundin, but its not exactly what lou is looking for, but at least hes a solid no. 2 dman
