What's wrong with J.D. Drew?

While lower back stiffness has knocked him out of the Red Sox' starting lineup for the last four games, J.D. Drew learned yesterday that he has been dealing with a herniated disc in his back, as well. Drew, who left Sunday's game against Toronto at Fenway Park after three innings, felt better Thursday but woke up yesterday with recurring stiffness, prompting the team to send him for an MRI at Mount Sinai Hospital. A clinical examination revealed a herniation of the L5-S1 disc, but the results of the MRI weren't immediately available. He said he hopes the injury doesn't require a trip to the disabled list.

It sucks when your team is falling apart. Just remember St. Louis squeezed out a championship in the year it started for us.

Well, he's soft.....he's unwilling to play with even minimal pain....he has no heart.....and no passion for playing the game. He also is a big-time underacheiver who should be a perennial All-Star and has the natural ability to be one of the top 5 players in the game. Yet he has never even approached that level, except in small bursts.

Oh, and apparently his back is injured now, too.

He has definately under achieved big time. When I watched him in college he was unreal. However with his back injury, I have a ruptured L5-S1 and I can see where it can put him out for a little while, it's the lowest disk in your back so all your upper body weight sits on it and during a swing it's the main pivot point.

oh looks like the Red sox's are now having some injury problems... OH DARN...

TenRings is right, JD has a reputation of being soft when it comes to injuries, expect the drama queen to milk this one for every cent it's worth. He will be on the DL for at least a week more than is expected!

So are the Rays and now the lead is 5/12 games. BTW, I think the pink Yankmees logo fits!

Besides the fact that he's soft?

The Rays are without two of their key guys yet the lead is now 51/2.

Why are Sox and Yankme fans suck P**S?

And I'm not talking about the White Sox either!

Did I mention that JD is a P***y?

since you mentioned Jose, you are given a free pass..

I have always disliked Drew. As a Sox fan, I hated it when they signed him last year. Man, when is this guy's contract up?

August 24, 2008  11:46 PM ET

I believe the Red Sox get 3 more years of his services. That means they can expect him to play reasonably hard in 2011.

Until then, expect him to live up to the"Day to Day Drew" nickname he picked up in STL.

Didn't they rename the DL to "Drew's List"?
