McNabb's surprising recovery

Surprising teammates and onlookers, Donovan McNabb went from observer to participant yesterday, leading the first-team offense for a few short series for the first time since tearing a knee ligament in November. Although the Eagles and McNabb have been saying for weeks that the quarterback's rehabilitation from knee surgery had been going well, no one ever suggested McNabb would participate in either of the Eagles' minicamps. It wasn't even a lock that McNabb would be ready for training camp, and so when he ducked under center yesterday, it was a shock.

looks like he will have to find something new to cry about.... he will be crying like a baby about something by mid-season.... actually - I'm sure he will be injured again by then...

June 12, 2007  08:41 AM ET

We heard a lot of "He's ahead of schedule" last year about Daunte Culpepper. McNabb and the Eagles need to take it slow to avoid making his knee worse

June 12, 2007  09:09 AM ET

Of course he's ahead of schedule. He darned near lost his job to Jeff Garcia last year. Lucky for him Garcia is no longer there. I think he's just trying to remain the #1 QB in everyone's mind and that is going to get him hurt again, ala Daunte Culpepper.

June 12, 2007  09:16 AM ET

Remember this next year when the Eagles name the 36th overall pick in this year's draft as their starter and Dono is whining that they rushed him back.

June 12, 2007  09:36 AM ET

McPuke will go down yet again... Take it to the bank.

Brian 'Mr. Pillow-Fight' Dawkins hits like a chick & can't beat a DTackle in a foot race...

Is Mr. Invisible Kearse still on the team?

When does Westbrook go down?

Too easy... Next.

June 12, 2007  09:49 AM ET

On one leg, McNabb is still better than Eli.

June 12, 2007  09:51 AM ET

McNabb can't win. He gets ripped when he doesn't talk, then gets ripped when he does. He isn't a whiner. I still haven't figured out where that came from.

June 12, 2007  09:55 AM ET

McNabb situation is a little different then Culpepper's because McNabb only tore his ACL. Culpepper tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his knee. Yes, the Eagles and McNabb need to be cautious but at the same time, his injury was not as extensive as Culpepper's.

June 12, 2007  10:20 AM ET

McNabb will be fine, we wont rush him back, a couple series in mini camp is nothing. All you god damn new yorkers ****. The Eagles will win the east again by 2 games this year, and the giants are going to be 6-10. And the dude who insulted Brian Dawkins, grow some balls and give respect to one of the greatest Free Safeties who has ever played this game

June 12, 2007  10:21 AM ET

As a lifelong Vikings fan, I can tell you there's a huge difference between the two. Not only was Pepper's injury far more serious, but also McNasty is smart, while Pepper is stupid. He's not going to rush back to keep a job that is unquestionably his, so I'm sure he's fine. I would expect a very big year from him again this year - bigger if the Eagles (how have they not figured this out yet?) can keep a #1 target on the team.

June 12, 2007  10:27 AM ET

I think we have proved from our success in this decade that we do not need a #1 target. We won 2 playoffs games w/o T.O and have had great success with less noticeable wideouts. We value many more positions, rightfully so, over WR

June 12, 2007  11:11 AM ET

you dont get over a knee injury
especially when it has happened 3 times in five years
no way

June 12, 2007  11:27 AM ET

All of you McNabb haters are going to really enjoy eating your words this year. He's coming back and will be just as good as he was last season (3 TD's to 1 INT, what other QB's accomplished that??).

If you're team is in the NFC no Superbowl for you this year. The EAGLES will be flying high once again.

Go Eagles!!!

June 12, 2007  11:34 AM ET

Mcnabb will be mcnasty on those defenses this year all he has a good rb and team focused receivers and a good defense and lest I forget Akers playoffs yes and super bowl why not we could and should have easily handled the Saints and yes we can spank those Cow girls and the bears Garcia fans he had a team around him. so E A G L E S EAGLES!

June 12, 2007  11:35 AM ET

Hopefully McNabb has learned that he doesn't need to try to do too much. The success of A.J. Feeley in '02 and Garcia last season is proof that all the Eagles' offense needs is a QB who doesn't make mistakes and manages games well. If Westbrook stays healthy all season like he did last year, I believe that the Eagles will end up in the top 5 in the league in offense whether McNabb stays healthy all season or not. A.J. Feeley has shown himself to be a very competent backup for the Birds, he works well in their offensive system just like Garcia.

To the happy room, sounds like a case of bitterness and resentment towards the dominant team in the division for the majority of the past few seasons. The Giants blow, Eli is terrible as a QB and a team leader, and Coughlin is probably the worst head coach in the league. AND your best player retired, Strahan is over the hill, and Burress and Shockey are both talented but are total ****. The Gints won't finish above 3rd place and won't sniff the playoffs w/ out Barber. Eagles will win the NFC East again in '07!!!

June 12, 2007  11:44 AM ET

Ferrel, McNabb is the one who campaigned for a #1 you dope. He wanted Stallworth to stay around. Get your facts right instead of spewing your NY based non-sense.

And Jordan, McNabb has not had 3 knee injuries. He broke an ankle and had a sports hernia.

June 12, 2007  12:09 PM ET

NoleJ sums it up very well. The pieces are in place for the Eagles to retake the NFC once again, not just the NFC East. Healthy McNabb, westbrook, LJ, reggie, curtis, dominant O line, and a commitment to the run game will make our Offense scary. Thats not even considering the improvement of youngsters like baskett and avant and tony hunt as well. On defense, Bunkley is a new person nowadays, hes been in philly every day this offseason training. Kearse is getting his weight back and trotter is leaner now so hell stay in better condition. Takeo will not be awesome for us, his pro bowl days are over but as long as he is good, thats much better than Dhani ever was. Our secondary is very very solid. I think considine plays well this season. My biggest question mark for this entire team is Gocong at the SAM. Who knows wtf to expect there. Also, im excited to see Bloom at the return spot. Hopefully we never see Reno Mahe here ever again

June 12, 2007  12:37 PM ET

It doesn't matter if the Eagles can make it to the playoffs, they aren't going anywhere. There are at least 5 AFC teams that would eat them alive, because their offense is one dimensional. Westbrook is just another receiver, and until the Eagles can establish a real running game playoff caliber teams will destroy them everytime.

June 12, 2007  12:43 PM ET

All u guys raggin on McNabb... one question.. whose ur qb on ur fav team? and please dont say indy and jump on the wagon

June 12, 2007  12:48 PM ET

how can you possibly say westbrook is "just another reciever"?over 1200 yards last year, plus 700 recieving with 11 total TDs. And as long as we get to the super bowl, anything can happen in one game. If mcnabb doesnt throw 3 picks in sb39, we win that game. anything can happen.
