Will Brady miss entire preseason?

The preseason remained Tom Brady-free for the Patriots as the franchise quarterback, nursing a sore right foot, sat out for the third straight game, ceding the Gillette Stadium stage to backup Matt Cassel last night against the Eagles. It's now possible Brady could start the season Sept. 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs without the benefit of preseason play, with his last live action coming in the Patriots' 17-14 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII in February. The reigning MVP has one last chance to test things out in faux football Thursday when the Patriots wrap up the preseason against the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J. Brady is not the only one whose timing could be affected if he can't play in an exhibition game. The same would go for his receivers, who have worked with him extensively in practice but have yet to catch a pass from him in a game.

Preseason - Brady's Quote:

How the hell am I supposed to make my teammates better by goin' to practice?
??? If Coach tells you that I missed practice, then that's that. I may have missed one practice this year but if somebody says he missed one practice of all the practices this year, then that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach Billacheat that you don't have to give the people of New England a reason to think about trading me or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in New England deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that ... If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that? ... Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about practice. We're talking about practice man. We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. When you come to the stadium, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about practice right now. ... Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about practice man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters, we're talking about practice ... How the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing

GROOSOUT your picture is kinda gay,
so what if he misses the preseasonhe probably just get some girls pregnant which has become a hobby of his

August 23, 2008  10:10 AM ET

What matters is if he misses some regular-season games, pre-season games aren't really all that big but all I have to say is if Brady on the off-chance does miss the season Matt Cassell better get on his game because right now, the Patriots would be in a hell of a spot if this was the regular season.

Just where are you getting your information about Brady dipping his unprotected wick in all those different honey pots?? You really should limit your reading of Fan Fiction to stories about Harry Potter or Naruto.

August 23, 2008  10:33 AM ET

He's just resting up for the season

August 23, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Why expose Brady to the preseason punishment resulting from an offensive line that isn't blocking for the run and appears porous right now. He doesn't need to experience "game conditions contact" to time it up with his receivers, he needs protection to remain upright to make the throw.

Why risk his health and future by playing in meaningless games? Save it for when it counts.

Pats/Giants pre-season game?? Who made up that schedule?

August 23, 2008  01:02 PM ET

brady and the patriots will be fine, its only pre season

August 23, 2008  01:05 PM ET

it'll take a game or two to get everything worked out, but in the end they will be fine...

August 23, 2008  01:09 PM ET

this is the best quarterback in football were talkin about, so no need to worry

August 23, 2008  01:22 PM ET

i thought guiterez looked pretty good, i mean hes no tom brady..but they should look into him as second string rather than cassel.

August 23, 2008  01:28 PM ET

gutierez did look good he should be the 2nd string qb, definitely not matt cassel

August 23, 2008  01:32 PM ET

I really hope their stupid enough to play him against the giants first team d-line in the last game...pretty boy tom will be laid out flat on that failing ankle, and make the pup list for sure.
