Montreal Canadiens sophomore forward Sergei Kostitsyn isn't convinced Russia's Continental Hockey League -- known as the KHL -- will threaten the dominance of the National Hockey League. Kostitsyn, from Belarus, said he wouldn't consider leaving the NHL even if the KHL came with a big-money offer. "Leave the best league in the world? No, thank you," Kostitsyn told Russian prospects.com.

That man deserves respect for that answer. Best competition versus money? Well said Sergei.

He also gets to play with his brother (for now) in the real hockey capital of the world. It beats Siberia.

OMG..Charleston Southern was 1-3 in their conference and 5-6 overall. I have seen Division III teams with a tougher schedule. Is this game sanctioned by the NCAA?

Now that the agreement between the khl and the nhl is signed he can't say anything else. Which doesn't necessarily mean he didn't say it in a frank manner.

There's no working transfer agreement between the NHL and the KHL at the moment actually, so he still technically could sign in Russia. The most he would face is an IIHF suspension at the moment

I'm more worried about his brother leaving. It wouldn't surprise me if he did.

August 25, 2008  02:29 AM ET

I WISH HE WOULD! Maybe after the centennial year he will leave Montreal and stop kicking Bruin ****!

August 25, 2008  10:08 AM ET

What? A Russian who wants to play in the NHL? He's got balls!

Oh! Wait! He's not Russian! He is from Belarus! That makes sense!

All these players contemplating playing in Russia have forgotten one detail: They'd actually have to live in Russia! Not even A-Rod money would be worth that.
